When is prime pow season in colorado?

So im planning a two week vacation to visit a friend in denver and i was just wondering in all of your expert opinions when would be a good time to plan a trip for optimal powder riding. i was thinking february, but i have no basis for that except that its wintertime in february.


its time to start thinking winter!!!one!11!

man i love getting my gear ready, planning trips, checking the weather...so sick.

feb is probably your best bet for good skiing. i forget when presidents day and MLK day are, but i remember that it is super busy around those weekends, and more pple means less powder, even if they are gayper texans who cant ski.

fuckin eh i knew i would get a response like that. thanks for nothing.


anyways.....if i could find my old school website i used to use i would have never posted. it was this meteorologist/tele-skiier who had this intense science and breakdown of every resort in america, as well as regions and mtn ranges etc etc. some of you might remember the site. im not sure if its up anymore, it was real cool no pictures or anything. i remember using it ages ago, like 10 years or so.



and yes i was looking for a generally snowy month, fucker. i know its colorado, and that it snows a lot.

usually late jan to early feb are good, because there is a really good base by that point, and when it snows, it snooooooooows

word thanks, thats all i was looking for. it was a real simple question and everyone being so contrary on this site is old. i was just looking for a consensus on when it dumps, and throwing a wrench in my thread like that can kill it. unnecessary.

you're going to colorado for powder? it better be like CB, or silverton at least, cause colorado doesn't really get that much snow compared to most other places in the west.

February and March are epic, But i've seen massive storms as early as December, so no matter when your here you'll probly be enjoying some epic pow

Loveland may get more snow in march but its a wet snow then...if you want the dry powder come during january and february...and the key is to hike to places to find the pow and not wait for it to snow.

I don't know where you heard that CO had alot of pow all year...We get about 350-400 a year on a good year, that isn' that much compared to pnw or even Utah. CB, Silverton, wolf creek, and teluride gets more but Summit county, Winter Park, Beaver Creek, Vail and Steamboat don't get that much. Vail is still great though, because it is so big that 6 or 7 days after a storm there is still good snow to be found if you know where to go.

Except washington, nothing but rain. Yep colorado is a good bet. Id go with april, cause you have all of those other months to build up the snow. Then youll have tons of it!

ok, honestly in Colorado it can be a big snow month almost any month in the winter.  I have lived in Summit County since 1996.  I have seen a lot of snow in November, i have seen a lot of snow im March.  March is the snowiest month in Colorado.

Northern and Central Colorado

The mountains surrounding Summit County tend to concentrate the snow on the areas just outside (Vail, Winter Park, and Steamboat) at the expense of those inside (Copper, Breckenridge, and Keystone). March is the highest snowfall month at all areas. Arapahoe Basin, Berthoud Pass, and Loveland are located on the Continental Divide and are subject to a unique weather pattern in which moisture from the Great Plains generates extra snow in the spring, making both March and April the highest snowfall months here.
