Biking on No Biking Trails

Ya i just got reamed out by some guy on this trail near my school that is for hikers only i argued with him for 15 minutes and came to know real conclusion, i was arguing about how the city is super one sided towards hikers because there are no biking trails within like even a 45 minute bike from Uvic Campus and how my use of the trail was doing nothing to erode or hurt other hiking users of the trail.
So my question to you guys is does any body know of any studies or anything where hiking and biking trails are compared for erosion or any reasons why i should or shouldn't be allowed to use those trails?

hikers bitch a lot because they have to move out of the way for bikers and they're always worried about getting hit. they also feel like bikes tear up the ground, i just ride on hiking trails anyway, they're always the good technical ones anyway, narrow with lots of rocks, biking specific trails are like meandering double tracks unless you're in a biking mecca

bikes don't tear up the ground unless you're braking all the way down the hill. hiking and biking are almost equal on an environmental impact level. most trails are shared so hikers should always be on their guard for bikers.

punch him out.
or just tell him that there are no nearby biking trails and that your bike doesn't do any more harm than his shoes.

funny thing is that they allow horses on national park trails, but they dont allow bikes. something wrong with that picture right there.

Also in some berms here they are destroyed by the combination of braking and full suspension bikes kicking the tires down.
Also I agree that alot of hiking trails are fun to bike on, and behind me is a huge hiking park that NO BODY goes into so I like to spend a day far back out in the hiking trails building my own little illegal kickers or drops

Haha yeah true, some steeps have epic noob break and sus bumps, but then again a noob will see "no biking" on a hiking trail and not get on it
