Sure, but... okay, I'm going to address this more broadly: there are a lot of people on here making a lot of posts. Some of you are very smart and well informed, some of you have some idea what you're talking about, some of you don't have ANY idea but have the capacity to figure this stuff out, and some of you are hopeless. Now, the latter are easy to repudiate, but the likelihood is that they'll just ignore it, or scratch their head in confusion, and go back to saying what they were before. Consequently there's no point in replying, and such people are best left ignored. To put it more bluntly: sometimes the only necessary thing to say to a post in a political thread is, "that doesn't even deserve to be dignified with a response". In other words, nothing at all.

In your case, I fully explained why a "present" vote isn't a failure of leadership within the Illinois State Senate, and has other implications within that context: you vote "yes" when you want to do one thing, you vote "no" when you want to do another, and you vote "present" when you want to do a third thing. Sometimes a present vote will be tantamount to a yes, usually it will be tantamount to a no, and occasionally it will represent an abstention. In all cases it is meant to send a message to a particular group or groups. Yelling HE'S NOT READY TO LEAD because he made use of the customs of the legislative body of which he was a member is consequently ignorant, and continuing to do so once the whole thing has been explained to is moronic.

There aren't as many good examples of political posters on here as in the past, but if I didn't think anyone around here was worth talking to, I would ignore the thread. Quinny's a pretty smart dude and I agree with him on a sum total of nothing. Almostaskiier I only agree with occasionally. Cottonwo- has a pretty good head on his shoulders. There are others, some of whom haven't been posting. Then there's Aspendukes, who I'm afraid has now made herself into the personification of ignorance on this website and thus becomes the appropriate example of people who you'd probably prefer didn't exist and should be treated in accordance with that preference.

I would say that the string of lies and failures that followed that day were considerably more important than whether he finished reading to the kiddies or not. Focus on what's important: how badly the man subsequently screwed up a country that placed more or less complete faith in him on that day.

Let's say for the sake of argument that the Bush administration was completely decisive. I'd prefer a few days of waffling and indecision on their part, shooting back and forth between possible courses of action before choosing one that ends up working, rather than immediate decisive action that kills thousands of people and mires the country in a illegal and absurdly costly conflict with a country which had no part in the attacks, causing significant damage to that country's international relationships and allowing the real perpetrators to escape any consequences. That kind of leadership, leading the people off a cliff, you can keep.

hahaha im not arguing with you the original post was in response to minnesota. i totally agree, hence why i have no problem with his present votes. obama seems like he actually wants to get facts. perhaps we can avoid having another my country right or wrong president

I personally don't like leaders who have to committee on everything.  I teach my supers to make a decision rather than delay.  Learn from your mistakes.  Now obviously,  you want decision makers that are informed and level headed.

When times are tough you need people who get stuff done.  We layed off all the people who wanted to have a meeting to discuss when the next meeting is.   Everyone says times are tough now, correct?

Monday morning quarterbacking is the easiest thing in the world to do.   Move forward people.

You surprisingly bring up an interesting notion. From our modern standpoints, many of the leaders during WW2 would be considered FAR right conservatives, and they were considered pretty liberal for their time. The world seems to be drifting towards liberalism over time.

You're right...things never change so 'rights' made up hundreds of years ago are still perfectly relevent today. Why should we ever question decisions made hundreds of years ago in the past!

Slavery is still a great idea, so is burning witches! And while were at it im still pretty sure some roman god drags the sun across the sky. US rights trump everyone elses righs because US citizens were hand picked by GOD to rule the world*!

I'm not talking about slavery and burning witches. I'm talking about the right to protect myself, my livestock, my property and my family. If any of those came back today, they would be extremely disappointed in us. Not because we changed slavery or burning witches, but because the values they wanted for this country are almost gone. We wanted to be separate from England, and to have the rights that not many countries have. Don't take any of my rights away.

I think its bullshit to assume what the forefathers wanted. For one, they all were not in agreement about what this nation should embody, and secondly, some of what they valued, such as slavery, were awful. The "Its what the founding fathers wanted" argument is bullshit. America had a good start, but it evolved to be a better nation without strictly following what our forefathers set down.

I agree.  The world is always evolving, the country is always evolving and the constitution should evolve as well.  That's why we have these little things called Amendments.  Ring a bell anyone? Meh, maybe we should stick with what the founding fathers wanted though so aspendukes can't vote.

I KNOW our world and our country is evolving, and I know that it has evolved A LOT since 1776. I'm talking about my rights as a citizen. Sure, each subject needs to be updated, but lets not take my rights away. I'm mostly referring to my gun rights. You know that if you take my/your gun rights away there will be mostly no good guns. Almost all gun crimes are with illegal guns. Illegal guns are still going to happen even when you take the right to own a gun legally away. I'm not looking to hold up a 7-11, I just want to protect myself from the bad people with guns. But if God wants to bring me home, then let him.

Its still a bullshit argument. Our country dictates what is moral and what rights we should have based not on the original constitution - if we did, we'd still have people only counting as 3/5ths a person. The constitution in the long term doesnt uphold rights, its just a medium for showing our nation what the majority agrees upon as good rights for people to have.

Maybe we do need to update the right for you to bear arms. I mean, if you're alright with some rights changing, but not all... a little bit of a double standard maybe?
