Hiking hood this week...

Good question - I am sure they are going to stop grooming the parks with the lifts closed, though there may be some hittable features - there is a jump for aerials on the Palmer that will probably be there for a couple of weeks yet and the remnants of the quarter pipe in the public park might make for some decent hits.  Apart from that, however, it will be pretty dead.

There is plenty of snow, however.  None of it is steep or challenging, but if it is a question of hiking for some turns, it is very feasible.  It took us 1hr 12 min to hike to the public park on Saturday.  There haven't been many people hiking since the park moved up to the Palmer snowfield in early August, but my brother and I have been up every week and will probably be hiking again next weekend as well.

I'm already in oregon but I dont wanna go on a weekday since I know it will be really dead. Do you think If i wait a week and just go this weekend the snow/jump will still be hittable?

I only skied for 4 weeks last season due to knee injury so I'm anxious to even slide on skis and get the feeling again so I'm down for an hr hike. thanks.

I'm guessing that if the jumps are not maintained for a week that they will be lumpy and deformed.

There is nothing left to hit, we dozed everything flat for the shut down time. We will re-set stuff for re-opening on the 13th for weekends only. BTW Fusion passes are on sale and will be valid starting sept 13. yep it's the start of the winter season at t-line.

Nice - thanks for the update.  I am looking forward to seeing what you guys do with the late summer/early fall park.

once I finish school in spring i think i will be coming back out to Hood for sure.
