So I stay with this racer and he tunes everynight. I was wondering if you ever tune your skiis? If so how often and what do you do? Hot Wax, edges, diamond, petex etc..
I wax every few times I ski any ski, it varies though.
As far as tuning edges, I still have a few race skis that have edges on them, and they probably get an edge tune once a year. But I only ride them a couple times a year.
all twin tipped skis get ridden their first time out without touching the edges, then I decide I dont like it so I file them down, nice and round.
If you hit rails or anything, I wouldnt suggest sharpening your edges. I would suggest rounding them down. It seems to reduce wear and tear. Its also a little more forgiving for a lot of stuff. and obviously butters.
i raced for six years before switching to free skiing so tuning is kind of in my blood. I dont sharpen my edges because i hit rails but i do debur them. I wax my skis at least once every two weeks to avoid base burn. PTex is a must
whenever i get new skis i tune them for hours before i ride them. begin wit a good base flattening then stone grind with a fine cross structure since i'm east coast and sharpen the edges to a side bevel of 3 degrees and a base bevel of 1 degree. with good bevels i can still have a fairly sharp ski and still slide smoothly on rails. then i go back with a heavy detune. then comes many many coats of ch8.
I hot wax my skis pretty regularly and I Ptex them if I get a really deep gouge or core shot I do a lot of rails so I don't tune the edges, but if there's a burr, I might file it off. I wax and P tex other peoples skis and boards too.
sorry to clutter up this thread, but I wonder what it would be like tuning the lib tech 'NAS' skis with the 'magnetraction' (wavy edge), if it would be any harder. Nor really related to the topic either I guess
