Hv20 vs. Hv30.

I just sold my pd-170, and i needed money, so i'm going to the more consumer level hv series.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why i would buy an Hv30 compared to the older Hv20. i can get a new hv20 for 749, or a new hv30 for 999. I can't really find a reason why i would pay the extra 200 dollars.

Anyone with either, heeelp?

$999 for an HV30? You can get them for around $150 cheaper.

I live in canada, so most places that are that much will end up costing shipping anyways. bhphotovideo even sells for 800 US. Which translates into me paying more in canada.

Alright, I thought someone might be able to help fast, but i did my research for anyone else interested.


The Hv30 comes equipped with the added shooting mode of 30p, in addition to 24p and 60i, is a fancy new black, and has an improved zoom toggle switch. Pretty much it.




I'm going with the 30.

It's only got 6 things different:

*Better zoom toggle
*It's black
*The hot-shoe cover is tethered to the camera
*You can shoot in 30p (along with 60i and 24p pulldown)
*Better LCD screen
*The HV30 can charge the high capacity battery in one cycle (HV20 can't)


those are the only things different between the two

If you want to shoot 30p, the HV30 is for you. 30p is progressive and can still be slowed down to 80% without much motion blur. It's a really good feature, all I shoot is 30p with my DVX and love the 30p mode.
