I'm not the best writer, so bare with me...
Long story short, I got my Laptop stolen on Thursday morning.
We
accidentally left the door unlocked and I guess someone came in and
stole the laptop and my fiancee's wallet out of our apartment while we
were sleeping.
I didn't notice that the laptop was gone until Sunday.
I use this program called LogMeIn that allows me to remotely control a few friends computers and my own.
It also logs when the last time the computer was logged in and from what address.
So I look at the logs and it shows someone logged into the internet from it at 10:28pm Saturday night.
I took all this information and contacted the Burnaby RCMP.
Basically,
the officer that showed up and took the report said that it will most
likely not get investigated because the loss is not enough.
Anyways, today I was at a friends and we were talking about it, and I decided to check to see if it had been logged in again.
I got out my new phone (HTC Diamond w/"unlimited" telus data plan) and logged into my LogMeIn account.
MY LAPTOP WAS ON AND BEING USED!!!
So I connect onto it and look at the screen.
The guy is watching porn.
I closed the browser window and he opened up a new one.
Google came up as the home page and I started typing into the search field.
"This laptop is stolen"
He erased that and typed "who is this"
Me:
This is the owner of this stolen laptop, your IP address has been
logged and will be reported to the RCMP if you do not return it...
Anyways, this goes on for a good 20-30 minutes. Me telling him to call me, and him saying that he just bought it for $350.
At
one point he says, hold on a minute. So while he's gone, I open up
whatismyipaddress.com on his browser so that he sees that I have his IP
info and that I'm serious.
When he comes back to the computer, he sees that on his browser and immediately clicks on the back button.
Meanwhile, a crowd of friends have gathered to watch all this happening on my phone. lol
Somewhere
in his fumbling, he clicks on the down arrow beside the address bar and
it brings up a list of recently typed addresses. It was only for a
split second, but I saw facebook as one of the entries.
So when he
finishes typing out his next sentence "How the hell are you doing
this??", I click on the address bar and click on facebook.
BOOM, up comes the login screen with his email address in the login field.
So now I have his email address. Searching that on Facebook gave me his name and his secondary school.
Now I have to wait until tomorrow to do something.
