with the exception of the gentleman above me, everyone else must have been skiing a different stowe. Spruce's park was boilerplate ice until it melted out, so it was virtually unhittable. the rails were set up terribly, and there was very little maintenance. North slope was nicely maintainted but the biggest jump topped out at maybe 30 feet, if even that
spruce sucks for a park, plain and simple. why put a park thats far away from the good skiing and where all of the designated beginner trails are? plus its on a steep pitch so the jumps had super steep landings.
the north slope park would have been decent had they maintained it and kept it as the bottom part of the park.
a single park lap was nothing more than a minute, and you could only hit two jumps then two features in one run, everything was too cramped.
i assume itll be good this year, so im kinda pumped
honestly, they couldnt have had a better trail than tyro. The jumps on spruce would have been incredible if it werent for the ice problem which is a side effect of the battering winds spruce experiences year round, except when stowe pays to have them turned off during massachusetts vacation week. The landigs were steep like levin said, which wouldnt normally be a problem except they were ice skating rinks
I hear you on that, but seeing that is all the space I have to build in 160feet wide and 750-800 feet long, what suggestion do you have for a different set up? Keep in mind that you need to allow 25 feet in between rails and takeoffs. And the side slope of a jump is dead space and takes up about 25-30 feet. I want to build the parks you will enjoy, but keep in mind after 15yrs of park grooming, I know what will fit, but I'm open to feed back. Respect!
And by the way I am not bringing back the guy who used to groom, or kind of groomed, I want to improve things around here, but can not do it alone.
You must not have hit the 2 jump line into Red bull step up into up rail into down rail into wall ride out line, thats 6 hits right there.
ill admit that was a sick line, but you couldn't hit the "big" side of the last jump and hit the red bull box. In order to nail anything over a 3 with a decent grab you would have to basically overshoot the last jump, which would barely set you up with the speed to hit the flat up flat.
I'll admit, I do try to give you guys as much as possible, and there are some good lines in there, I guess I'm struggling with designing/building either a flow park or a sessions park, but I build more of a flow park just because N.Slope Med park is also our contest park, USASA events our oun, everything happens around that park, and almost every other weekend. I have asked to strech the N. Slope park down to where the Lookout lift crosses, just below the wall ride, that (if they give it to me) should open things up a bit to allow for a safer hike and sesh, so setup and crossovers could improve.
For me, I'm open to suggestions, obviously there are still aspects that I need to keep when designlng/building that park, but you are the ones who put more time sessioning it. this is a good place to get feedback to improve things, keep it real, one of my mottos "be disrespectful and expect to be disrespected" just give useful info.
Id love to give you some feedback and it sounds like stowe's park is going to go off next year, but unfortunately my parents pulled me out of school for the year, so I'm going to be working your same job at my home mountain. It's good to hear what you have to say though, because I know ill be encountering things like this
