Can Anyone Spare Some University Advice?

Ok, so I'm about to move away to school soon, I still haven't bought a laptop. Lately I have been wondering if I even really need one. I have a brand new home built desktop that I use for gaming and can be used for writing papers etc.
I am living off of a limited salary and I would love to save some cash for skiing and ski gear, by cutting out spending around $800 for a pure class laptop I could definitely lessen the strain on my wallet.
I am taking a Business program at school, I have english, economics courses and a commerce course under my course load. Can anyone give me some advice? Will I be lost without a laptop in class?

no you do not need a laptop at all, you are not going to be using in class to take notes like you see in the movies. i had a desktop last year and was very happy with it. this year i am getting a laptop just because i am living off campus and want to be able to use it in between classes without needing to go back to the house.

A lap top is definitely a plus. I find a laptop really nice to have in class, especially the ones where you have to take a shit ton of notes, it's a lot faster and easier on the wrists and I can actually understand what I put down. Don't know about you but my note taking writing looks like fucking pre-school. Plus if you have to type up a paper you can do it anywhere you want. And you can sit in class on newschoolers.com. Up to you.

I own a laptop and never brought it to class once last year. Writing notes by hand seems to help me remember things a lot better than typing, but that might just be me. I'd go buy a sweet pair of sticks and worry about a laptop later.

i'm entering my third year of college, and i don't know what i would do without a college. My college is very laptop dependent though, as i believe it actually requires a laptop for everybody. Its super useful when im studying because i can take my computer to the library where i do almost all of my work. Its really really touhg to get work done in my dorm, so that would be a real downside to a desk top in my opinion

Went my first two years of business school without a laptop. I was perfectly fine taking notes by hand and if i had a laptop i would of not paid attention in class. There were enough computers on campus that if i ever needed one at the library or between classes i would just stop by a computer lab. It helps with studying and group projects but i never needed one. Bought one this summer cause im studying abroad and cant lug my desktop to China
