Moving out West

Who here has moved out west, for the primary reason of better skiing?

I live in Ontario Canada and have an opportunity for employment in Vancouver.

If anyone can share some experiences that would be awesome.

I went from new jersey to big sky and then later to mt.hood..uber skiing and uber snow.

totally worth it..esp if you are going to whistler

move here. trust me you wont want to go home, if you live in north vancouver where i live you could be literaly 5 mins from one of the 3 ski mountains, live in downtown and its half an hour by car

i ski after school almost every day and i use public transit to get to the mountain, not many places can say that.

i actually moved out west for the summers, before i was super into skiing. spent a couple summers out west (rocky mountain national park, mt ranier np), but still wintering back in northern illinois. the following year, after summering in beautiful glacier national park, i moved to Bozeman, worked at Bridger Bowl, had my first taste of the cold smoke, and here it is 4 years later and Im still ski bummin in Montana.
cliff notes: came west for the summers, ended up staying because of the winters

im doing the same type of thing when i go off for college next year im going out west im from freaking upstate ny so i have shit for snow im super  excited any recomondations on colleges pm me and i will be forever thankful

i think you would like it ive lived out west all my life but ive been to vancouver lots and its a sick city and whistler is like 1.5 hours away with grouse and cypress there too

I've lived in Seattle all my life, and I love the skiing in the PNW.
I went to CO over Christmas break, (Vail, Breck, and Beaver Creek) and  I was not that impressed with vail or BC. Breck was sick though.

How could you not have been impressed with vail. unless it was super busy which happens.  Its so big there so much terrain to ski.

i wasn't super stoked on Vail, i had a much more enjoyable time at breck, copper and beaver..just so much more of a homely feel

I grew up in NH and went to school in VT for better skiing, then I graduated mid winter last year and moved to CO for even better snow, for one winter.....  its now almost September and I'm still here in CO waiting for the snow to start falling again.  Moral of the story is move out here because the snow is amazing but be warned its really hard to leave

There is about 4-5 hills within a few hours of Vancouver. Van doesn't really get snow though, maybe once or twice a year.

well since ive been born, ive gone from Ohio, to California, to Connecticut, to now the hell im in, Georgia,,,as 17, and goin to college in 1, 1 1/2 years, im goin straight west, just for skiing,...i say do it!

yea, you picked some of the worst (and overpriced) mountains to ski in CO. Loveland is my favorite mountain out there by FAR! you can't go wrong with A-Basin either.

vancouver is cool... well, let me rephrase that. vancouver is better than toronto. It rains a shit ton in the wintertime, the party scene sucks compared to other cities in Canada, and most people are too cool to want to be your friend. all of that aside - the skiing on the north shore is better than most city hills, and within two hours or so you've got whistler and baker... both choice. if it's your ticket out of Ontario then take it. If you have other options, consider them.
