C'mon how many of us are here for that dream of one day going pro?

ok, so i'm here in the uk trying to get to sleep but just can't sop thinking about skiing. with the jon olsson blog back up i am now replaying his updates constantly just dreaming of going out there now.

anyhow i began thinking if i'm really addicted to skiing because of the enjoyment and everything else etc etc or if i can't stop thinking about it because i just want to get better and better and better. of course the enjoyment bit is part of the essence of skiing and none of us would be here if that wasn't a part of it.

but how many of you guys want to ski and ski to get better and better in the hope of one day skiing for a living? for sure i can't stop thinking about learning more and more stuff having more and more fun!

becoming pro is something the majority of this site probably dreams of on a regular basis.
i want to be pro.
however, I don't want to be pro just for the sake of it, or to be famous, or anything else like that.

the reason I want to become pro is so that I can continue doing the thing that I love more than anything else in the world every day of my life.

But yea who doesnt dream of being pro, i mostly think about being able to do crazy double flips and corks and giant mountains and cool heli shots

seems like a ton of NS, especially newer members, have this illconceived desire for status/sponsorship/pro-ness. It's whatever though. A few will get there, most won't.

i like what i'm reading here boys. but do you guys strive to get better or just enjoy it for what skiing is about. don't get me wrong i fking love skiing but i have a tramp outside along with a 10ft rail mini jib and just wandering if i'm obsessed?

absolutely.
I have no intentions of ever stopping skiing, and until I can no longer make it own the mountain I will continue to push myself simply for the love of skiing.

on the other hand, if you become a pro. a big name pro with sponsors, endorsements, etc., you have no "other job" to worry about
you never have to worry about financing skiing, but you still get to go to the sickest places in the world

Perhaps i phrased that wrong originally, what i meant is that i want to become pro so that i can simply ski for my whole life without truly having to worry about how i'm gonna afford it, or how its gonna affect other parts of my life.

As a pro, it seems you would be free to let skiing become the only major part of your life.

apologies for the double post

i think a part of loving skiing is the need to get better, to push yourself, to become the best you can be as corny as it sounds.
and it goes along with the basic love of skiing. i still love skiing, progression or not.
if all I had was a mountain with no park, steeps or cliffs, I would still be up there every day i could be. but given the opportunity to progress, I will take it in an instant.
I am obsessed if that makes you feel better.

hey rory, I'm in a similar situation as you... Being in the uk, wanting to go into the ski industry once I'm done with uni.

I know I won't turn pro and have never really tried to...but I do hope to do something within the ski industry, be it journalism, instructing whatever. I just want to ski. Hopefully I can do a season in N.Z next summer when I got holidays.. That would be sick.

You mentioned wanting to get better and better.. Yep. Everytime I go out on that snow I set myself a goal or two and try to improve. I really need to get new skis though.. I got fricking Head C220 SI's... Wow have I outgrown those.. Hopefully get me some Armada ARV's soon.

But ya.. don't want to go pro but want to live to ski.

mike i'm sure our paths will cross one day. i'm just 21, last year at uni having done a ski season on my gap year. very tempted next summer to head over to nz and then maybe try and push for some work in colorado! know a guy in nz now working at one of their resorts and all looks sick!

maybe after another big push for a year of skiing i'll see where i end up!

mike, you the guy with the review website? if so nice work, i saw there was a gap in the market too but never got off my ass to do anything about it. nice one

I wouldn't mind being a pro, but its not my goal when I go out skiing. I just want to have fun, if I'm not having fun it's not worth it and hearing pros talk about how having skiing as your job takes some of the fun away because you have to perform on a regular basis and shit like that.

They actually might've already.. What uni you go to? Did you go to last years BUSC Main Event? And ya, that's me and thanks.

I don't know about all of you.. but for me the hardest thing is to try and get skiing out of my mind over the summer. Closest I'm going to get to snow for couple months is the dry slope near me.. better than nothing though.

i dont think i ever really thought about going pro. hell my first year skiing park i didnt know people could make a living skiing. its always been about the love.

do I like the idea of free gear, and skiing as much as I can, with (hopefully) sponsors paying for cool things like plain tickets and heli time, obviously. Do I want the pressure that comes with it? No.

exactly they should dream of sponsoring themselves. being able to ski whenever they can because they can afford.. we should all just get jobs i the mountains

i am always skiing to get better and better and better. i love progressing and learning new tricks, it's awesome. do i do it to become a pro? of course not. i've come to terms with the fact that i'll never be a pro skier. i'm fine with that. do i dream of it? obviously. but i'm fine with being as good as i am now and progressing at this rate (which i think is pretty good) and still being able to have fun skiing.

I used to dream of it when I was younger. It was nothing mroe than dreams as I straight up suck at skiing. It's cool though.

to ski for a living year round is definetly a dream of mine and unless you come from a rich family the only way to do this is make it big in skiing.

exactly, i just want to ski forever, and ever. it is my life, it makes me emotional. like the other day, i was watching the news with my mom, they showed baker (my home mtn) and i teared up. i have had probably the best times of my life there, and i do not want that to end. i love it. im obsessed about it. thinking about it makes my eyes water, and i dont care if anyone calls me a little bitch, it just means that much to me.

I would love nothing more to get paid to do what I obsess about every single waking minute of my life. I'm going to be honest with myself though. There's a damn good chance that that won't happen so I still do my best in school so I can go to college. But for now I'm going to give it everything I've got to become pro.

i think the dream of being pro and being better than anybody else is part of what makes it so amazing. even when the dream dies of being pro, skiing is still the greatest thing on earth, and i will continue to push my self, and enjoy it.

i'm cuz i love skiing and that's about it. the idea of getting free gear is nice but i already get my expensive gear given to me (ie boots,skis) without being pro.

ski because you love it, not because you want to make a living at it.
