The CJ was produced for a long time. The different number after it does not reflect the components like the new JK does (Sahara, Rubicon, and X). The number is simply just the model name. I do believe.
The tranny in manual Cherokees suck. Hard to find parts for, and the auto is stronger as well
There is only one real true off-road jeep in their new line-up. The JK. 2 or 4 door, still same truck, the 4 door just has a little longer wheelbase. Actually, my parents just bought a new Liberty, and although it is a Jeep, it will see more pavement than dirt, and might I add, it's fuckin' nice, lol. Most of Jeeps vehicles aren't real off-road vehicles though. Mind you, ever since they added an SUV to their line-up (the Cherokee), there has only been one real true off-road vehicle, but the cherokee is kick ass if modded properly, and also goes pretty good in the bush stock. And the Compass is gross. Even if it is a Jeep, I hate it.
Your buddy is kinda a little stupid (no offence) for putting a supercharger on the 4 banger in the YJ. The 4 bangers in Jeeps were/are shit. It is no better on gas, and, less torque (biggie for wheelin) and less HP. My personal opinion, I would have just bought another YJ with the 4.0L. And even if he supercharged the 4.0L I6, by the time he's done with it, it would have cost the same to just drop in a small block.
One more thing, is the ARB locker for the front or rear? Is it the ARB air locker? If so, get it if it is for the front, it's always great to have a selectable locker in the front (one is in my future too), but, if it is going in the rear, don't get it. Get a Detroit Locker. Much stronger for the rear end sinch that's where most of your power is going.
And, since I've moved out and going to College now, my Dad has a bit more money he can spend, he's looking at buying a jeep specifically for wheelin'. I'm so stoked if he does, ooo I can't wait!
I'm glad you don't hate Jeeps, if you did, I would have to hate Toyota's. There are two brands of vehicles I hate though. 1) Suzuki (Samurai's and Sidekicks). Have you ever tried to keep up with one on a trail? Impossible 'cause they're so damn small. 2) Fords, 'cause, well, they're Fords. Haha
really though. they are pretty beastly offroad. my dads is just insane. goes through anything. this isn't me, but check out what these trucks are capable of.
now i've done some crazy stuff, but if your saying that an LR3 isn't capable of riding the stuff you go through, then I'd like to see what you go through. I'm not tryin to be a dick, i'm just curious.
or this
the first video wasnt very impressive since downhill is easier than up, usually, for traction.
the second was not impressive at all, a new JK could do that as well. And i sent you pics of my jeep, and it is much more capable than a lil stock rover
Ive used to drive a subaru legacy, now drive a jeep yj, mom drives a focus, dad drives a magnum and id say the subaru is the best in snow. Focus also is really good with snow tires and the magnum is good, but not for a 50 grand car, its just too heavy. My jeep is good if in 4wd but otherwise its terrible even on wet/loose roads. Sure you can always put it in 4 but you dont want to always drive like that.
Id say either go with an awd or fwd car. ive never once had problems fitting everything into my moms focus hatchback or my subara. Cars are a lot better on gas to get to the mountain too
i know what you mean (and agree), but he's saying that jeeps are more capable offroad than rovers...
rovers are pretty baller. my stock system is unreal crazy loud.
