Replying to Would you buy this ski invention?
So the $70,000 skis thread got me going again on an idea thats been brewing in my head for years- What if a manufacturer took something like the RECCO devices found on much of todays outerwear and incorporated them into a pair of skis or maybe just bindings? Then each ski would transmit a signal that could be located by an avy beacon or similar device. Of course, this signal would have to be on a different frequency or distinguishable from a beacon signal so as not to confuse rescuers searching for a buried avy victim. These devices would eliminate those gay pink powder leashes and those grueling wasted powder days spent probing in waist deep snow to find that ski you launched after the days first yard-sale. At first, i thought to mount them right on the skis but afterward thought it might be better to just incorporate them on bindings so they are more of an optional feature depending on the skis you want.
Do you NewSchoolers think this is a viable product and if so, how much would you be willing to spend. Feel free to add design suggestions as well. I would spend an extra $100-$200 to have something like this on my powder skis but what about you guys?
And if any ski manufacturers just saw the lightbulb in their brain turn on: feel free to steal the idea just make it soon and make sure im the first to get a pair.
