Taos needed the buisness and I support their decision. Mad river Glen is owned by a cooperative of shareholders that govers as a collective body. You want to ride at MRG, either by snowboard or toboggan? Buy a share and bring it up before the board.                Alta, on the other hand, is hallowed ground. It is the home and spiritual  heart of powder skiing in America. Alta's pioneers of avalanche science, men like Monty Atwater, Ed LaChappelke, and Svere Engen had their lives on the line daily while creating the avalanche protocol that allows all of us, including you, to ride safely. In fact, Atwater was wounded while fighting actual fascism in the Army's 10th Mountain Division during World War II.                  The ski vs. snowboard fued was always propogated by gapers on both sides. And I love the part where they say that they are free to go out to Alta and SKI. Maybe he should make some alta edition skis. Or if he really wants to ride there with his own products, all he has to do is to make some fat snowblades just like Shane did in Focused. Also, I hate the fact that burton is trying to play in the gore-tex world and make some high end jackets that cost a lot more than what they're worth. Reminds me of a GAPER bitch that used to work with me that bought a 800$ Burton gore-tex jacket in another shop while she had the opportunity to pay like 1/3rd of that price for a better jacket with her staff deals in our shop. And we carry some pretty legit compagnies like Helly, Mountain Hardwear, Salomon and Eider. I know that this last comment was a little out of the thread but all I've read here made my Burton hate go up and it had to come out.

burton is a big coreperate company and i bet they take over some of the small companies to. but what i wanna know is if a ski company does this??? like now with snowboarding a lot of my friends boycott burton cuz its to big of a coreperate and buy snowboards from small companies. do you think this can hapen in skiing? will a company like 4front get so big that they arnt cool any more and people will buy other stuff? strange to think about to cuz like, burton kinda invented snowboarding (i think) and probalby started off as a small "cool" thing. now they make to much money so their not cool? so does that mean that small ski companies like moment won't be cool anymore if they make a lot of money form skiing?

scary thought, i hope that it wont happen but most companies (even ski companies) get to the point where a profit outweighs what they started the company for and then they become like what burton is now

that was cool, he definatly destroyed burton. im all for snowboarders poaching these uptight ski resorts, i think its awesome, if you think about it, newschool skiing is much more similar to snowboarding than it is to the normal 50 year old groomer ripper's definition of skiing. so really we are more against these resorts banning snowboarding than with them.
the thing that pisses me off about burton's little contest is exactly what this guy pointed out, burton could be the biggest company in snow sports, its probably run by a bunch of old men who hire 25 year old kids to tell them what's cool. they are the opposite of a core "fight the big corperations" company. and they are trying to be all cool by telling kids to rise up against the big corperations.

so yeah this guy had a really good point, burton is the last company that should have a contest like this. but if it was some smaller core snowboard company i would be all for it and back the snowboarders 100%

plus i bet the guy that wrote that was like 50 years old and has never touched a park, us park skier's and snowboarders are all for each other, not against each other. you will never see a skier or snowboarder telling the other sport to get out of the park or call them fags for not being on their favorite amount of boards. but you will see conflicts between these old gapers riding through the park doing sick slalom turns infront of jumps and us park skier's and snowboarders. and the people banning snowboarders from their mountain are just that type of people that you see in the park getting yelled at or yelling at all the kids.

so all im saying is we are closer to snowboarding than we are to what these old men's definition of skiing is.

as a small business owner i have totally thought about this a few times. but the fact of the matter is is that most of the big ski companies are all owner by maybe like 3 or 4 larger companies like quicksilver owns rossi and dynastar and so on. so you just need to make the decision whether or not to be bought out and such.

as long as they dont try to monopolize the market theyre gonna be fine. burton sponsors so much shit and puts their shit everywhere. tell me one shop that dosent carry burton. Im pretty sure u can buy burton at target or walmart. They are the microsoft of the snowboard world, their stuff is good, but you get to a point where your absolutely sick of their product. They basically give their boards to mtns as rentals, they saturate the market to the point that ppl get sick of it. I would almost say the same thing for salomon (yes i know im gonna get some hate here but listen), nearly 50% of the riders at my hill ride salomon skis. 75% have some salomon product. now im not saying that salomon is bad, but since everyone has them, it makes me want to ride something else to be different from the crowd. Especially among the less experienced riders, they see that salomon has alot of great riders,and with jib academy, and a huge range of products, they assume that salomon is the "cool" stuff to use, paying no attention to product specs or how it rides. Burton is the same way, when the ppl start out they see shaun white riding burton everything, every part of his body has burton on it or a burton sticker. so they think that burton is the best just cause the best guy rides it. thus leading to an oversaturation of the market, and hatred by core riders.

but at least with skiing i think we have way more ski companies than snowbaording has board companies, i may be wrong but thats how it seems to me

eTo those  who said about ski companies swallowing each other, as far as I know The biggest company in skiing is  quicksilver  which has rossignol, dynastar,  lange, and look. Roxy too if you want to count it but I put that in with dynastar. Besides that the next biggest I know is K2 which has Line. I dont think ski companies care so much about a huge monopoly but rather just making a good product.


Burton makes good stuff too . Quality stuff at that. I have a hoodie and a backpack from them and both are really dope. But I think Burtons main objective is more to swallow the competition, in everything they can. Lets look at whats under Burtons umbrella:


Burton, Anon, Analog, RED,  Gravis, AK, Ronin, Channel Island Surfboards, Habitat, Alien Workshop, Special Blend, Jeenyus snowboards,  Forum, Four Square,  and Reflex


I mean, really the only people they havent gotten yet is Ride, and the ski companies that also make snowboards. Its ridiculous. Basically, if you buy almost anything snowboard, your supporting burton. and I think thats what their goal is, to be the main heart and soul of the sport

its a little different, burton is like the company that started it all, so they have been there the whole time growing over all these years and seeing as they were original they have had the market pretty much cornered since the beginning. back then it didnt seem like such a monopoly because it was snowboarding, rebelling against the traditional skiers so it seemed and probably was more real and part of the culture, now it has grown into something else. now that snowboarding has been popularized and is now "cool" to every pop music loving kid who bought the new t-pain/chris brown cd, burton cant feed solely off the fact that snowboarding is cool in a rebellious sense. it was a small rebel but now they themseleves have become the dictator of snowboarding

now its "cool" in the eyes of pop culture
so burton doesnt seem as down/real as it was when it was fighting to get snowboarding accepted
