suck first of all, but getting them removed is crazy
so ive had an ingrown toenail on my big toe for a while and its really been bothering me lately and it started to get infected because i tried to remove it on my own. I got an appointment and got it removed today and the procedure was awesome to watch.
So to start they pour this ridiculously cold liquid on your toe to numb it for the shot. The shot goes in around the base of your toe and then the guy kept pushing it in and curved it so it was under my toenail. I then waited for the numbing medication to kick in and he came back. He started off using pliers that had a nail cutting edge on them and started separating the ingrown part from the normal nail. Then he took a narrow scalpel and shoved it under my nail and deep to where the root is (this hurt cause thats where it was infected) and cut the root out. He then pulled the nail out (which turned out to be about 1/2ish cm wide and 1cm long). After he pulled out the nail he took a narrow stick of wood covered in a neosporen type creme and shoved it into the hole where the ingrown root was and let it sit there for a few minutes. Then he pulled it out and stuffed a long thin strip of gauze type material soaked in some solution to stop bleeding into the hole.
It was funny to watch, because normally I think of doctors being very careful and gentle with stuff, but not this guy. He was getting after my toe. If you ever have to get this done dont ask them to put up the barrier and watch it
