if you're using vista you can use readyboost. its not the same as ram though - its slower. ram has a direct connection to your motherboard while usb flashdrives are limited in speed by the usb transfer speed. its late so if that doesn't make any sense dont blame me haha

ah word, its probably easier just to upgrade your ram, in the end its gonna be faster and its gonna work properly. if your macs out of warranty just do it yourself, its a pretty easy job

I have an 8gb thumb drive as external ram and it probably has the same affect as 2gb of ram.

readyboost doesnt give you extra ram, your computer uses extra ram, hard drive space and flash memory (from readyboost) to cache infrormation you might need, read the wikipedia article
