PVC or steel pipe?

If you are like 90 percent of the kids that ask this question on here...you can't weld. Because if you could there wouldn't be a question at hand.

If you are just an average joe who plans to go to home depot to buy stuff you will want to go with PVC. it slides perfect most of the time and is pretty much the basis for most summer set ups or even winter.

NOW if you can weld. PVC is dumb and you would be an idiot to go with it. Metal is the only option here. ALthough it may be a bit more expensive they are much better and replicate as close to a mountain as possible.

It really all depends on your restraints and what you have to work with. PVC is much easier to connect to wood and is much more consumer friendly when it comes to Backyard Rails. Metal is a bit more tricky to connect to wood...so i hear...and a bit more expensive. If you have a welder you will be fine with metal but otherwise go with PVC. IT is a cheap alternative rail that slides just as well if not better for longer times. There you go. Hope it helps

thanks man. i have some welding experiece but i always use my friends stuff. i was just wondering whether it would be worth the extra time and money to do so.

It also depends really on how much you want to spend like you said. Metal rails are the best thing and will help you get used to mountains rails. It really is personal preference and if you want to work on your friends schedule. I would use metal if I had access to it in a heart beat. I currently use pvc and am completely content with the performance. Its your decicion

yea i use pvc at my house and it works really well in every way, it slides well, its cheap and it's user friendly, i have a pvc rail that i've had for over a year and it still works great. however if i could use metal i probably would, because a metal rail will probably last forever

me and my friend just made a double barrel pvc rail and it works fine but its only been like a month, so idk how well itll hold up^ at least a year apparently

wouldnt you make the legs out of metal too?

well if you read my original post you would have seen that i talked about welding and how each can be done. to make the legs out of metal you need a welder
