Subaru STI wagon question

So this is extremely specific and I kind of doubt anyone on here could answer it..

Looking into getting an STI wagon but my question is: Will an upright bass fit in the back?  It fits in my forester but the hatchback style tailgate doesn't look so promising.  So yeah..

other than that I take it people like these?  What's your input on them?

I really like my STI.  They are definitely worth the money.  At first I hated the hatchbacks, but they have grown on me. And I have no idea how big an upright bass is so I couldn't tell you.

~6ft long and 32 in wide at the bottom.  The neck would be able to fit between the driver and passenger seat in the front.

well if you give a subaru love it will last forever, and yes more like cheap, awd and turbo, at least those are the things that make them worth buying..........

You should have no problem getting a bass in there. If it doesnt fit in the back  you could just recline the front seat and slide it in.

I'm not worried about length I'm worried about height.  It's bad to lay the bass flat on its back because it puts too much stress on the neck/body joint.  So, it has to sit on its side.  I can jerry rig it with pillows and such if that's the case..

personally, i'd spend the extra couple k and get the evo, it looks better, its 4g63 powerplant is far more renound, and the weight distribution and handling are spot on and razor sharp, where the new sti's handling isnt quite there according to the reviews

plus you could definitely fit your subs in the back of the evo

ive driven the new hatchback sti as well as the older sti's. to answer your first question, it would be a very close fit, i hardly looked in the back at all so im not too sure.
but as for how it drives, its good for an average sports car, but its definatly not the badass race/rally car they make it out to be, especially the new one, the suspension is softer and less responsive, and all around you get less feel and its less fun than the older sti's. its still a good sports car, but not as great as you would imagine.
if i was looking at an sti, well first of all i would never look at an sti because the evo is a much better car in so many ways and its the same price, same size, etc.. but if you want to stick with a subaru for whatever reason, then id say look at a legacy gt wagon or outback xt. my friend has a stock lgt and he beat a friends wrx with intake and exhaust. and you can get around 400whp out of one easy. put 2 grand into the engine, put some coilovers and sway bars on it and you have a better handling and better performing car than an sti in every way (other than braking) and they look baller as hell.
or get an outback xt, do the same engine stuff, but buy coilovers that keep the ride height which is higher than most suv's and you have a rally/buggymobile that also outperforms sti's

so what i say is that if you want an sti type car, get an evo, it kills sti's, drive both and you will see what i mean, the sti hardly compares. (im talking about the evo 8/9, i havent driven the new one)
but if you just want a sports car that can haull around stuff get a legacy gt or outback xt, mod it and you will have an awesome car. you can find well modded lgt's with hardly any miles for around 25 thousand, there are some with over 400whp that have gone for under 20.

^ I'm looking at spending $10-14k..  Which I could easily get an 03 or 04 sti for.  I think the Mitsubishi's would be a little too much money and hatchbacks? I've never seen one..  I'm starting to look for the non turbo 2.5L's.   Thanks for the input guys! keep it comin...

10-14k? you will have a very hard time finding any sti for that much, the hatch sti's just came out, they are probably around 30k or so used.
you can find used sti's and evo's in the mid to high teens, but for 14 its gonna be pretty hard. actually if anything you will find an evo for cheaper than an sti, i think they came out a year earlier so you can find an 03 for around 15 or so.
but if you want to spend around 14, then you can get a wrx wagon easily, and probably a legacy gt wagon. if i were you id still go with the legacy gt wagon, its a little faster, way nicer inside, baller as hell looking, and just overall a better car.

and btw I was looking at WRX wagons, not STI's.. didn't read em right.  They ahd a bunch of STI mods and such.

im pretty sure those are slow, just go with a wrx wagon or legacy gt wagon and you will be happy. but with the legacy gt's make sure to get a 2004 +, before that they were slow and nothing special. atleast i think it was 2004. there is a huge difference in body style so you will be able to tell right away.

thats like calling a miata a chic car. anyone who actually uses their forrester, outback, miata, (cars with bad stereotypes) doesnt give a shit what their reputation is, they are awesome cars that perform awesome. you can buy a 3000 dollar miata, put 1000 into it for mods and destroy vipers and corvettes on a track, then see who is laughing when your badass muscle car got destroyed by a 4000 dollar "chick car".

same with forresters and outback's they can offroad better than most suv's and the outback and forrester xt's are fast as hell. so you can have a car that can offroad better than an suv, and can handle and accelerate better than most sports cars.

thats another car i should have mentioned, the forrester xt, they are badass and fast as shit, look into those if you want something tougher and more for offroad stuff.

That car has a decent amount of miles on it and its been modded and probably beat on. It seems like alot of money for that car. I think the bass will fit in easily, my mom drives a pontiac vibe and its about the same size any bass fits in easy.

foresters are junk, they can't out offroad a "real" suv, and can't out perform any car thats labeled a sports car. I don't know what you're thinking, but it's wrong. Foresters arn't bad ass, they are little lesbo suv's.

but that link ya fgave beofre, its a nice car, but def has been beat on just by the amount of mods he has done to it.. i mean who puts that much money to make a fast car, then dosent race it at all. but i would look fo an xt either outback or forester. or a legacy gt wagon. all sick semi quick cars with a decent amount of room.

id try to find something with less miles, really when you cheap out too much your just gonna end up paying what you saved on the car, on repairs and stuff.  you said you were looking to spend 14 tops? try to find one around that price and you will be set.  still try to find a good legacy gt or forrester xt, or maybe a outback xt, stock they will out acclerate a wrx, and the handling is similar, atleast with the legacy.
ill put it this way,
wrx- smallest, most nimble, sportiest overall.
legacy gt- fastest out of the group handles almost as good as the wrx, luxorious.
forrester xt- biggest, most offroad capable, still faster in a straight than a wrx, but the steering is a little boaty. dont underestimate it though, i think it hardly weights much more than an sti, and while it is a compact suv, it can handle very well for how much ground clearance it has.
outback xt- pretty much a lifted legacy, so you get more ground clearance, a little bit tougher of a car, but you get boaty steering and less fun and sporty, (good cars for jumping though!)

yeah they wouldnt even compare to something like a land cruiser. but compared to most "suv's" out there like pathfinders for example, they will do better, ive never seen an xt offroad, but ive seen forresters and they do very well.

and yes they can destroy plenty of cars labled sports car, maybe not evo's s2000's and stuff, but if you compare it to a mustang, rsx, wrx, srt-4, it will be right up there with them.

ive never been much of a fan of subaru's the first subaru i ever drove was a wrx and i was so excited cause i was expecting some super fast rally/race car cause thats what everyone makes them out to be, and it actually felt slow, it was ok when you were almost redlining and the turbo was spooled, but even then it wasnt anything special at all, you have no power at all then for the small amount of time the turbo is spooled, its somewhat fast. and the handling and overall feel of the car just wasnt that great.
same thing happened when i drove the sti, it was not even close to what i expected, it was pretty damn fast, but still the steering and feel of car was nothing special. honestly if all i wanted was a fun sports car id take a miata over an sti any day. 
the best subaru ive driven was probably the legacy gt, it feels like it wants to oversteer rather than understeer, and overall its a very well built car. the suspension could be a little stiffer stock, but i was the most impressed by the legacy.

like i have no idea how anyone could buy an sti over an evo, the evo is such an amazing car, it really feels like mitsubishi based this car off their rally cars, while subaru modified their 2.5 rs's there is quite a big difference, the evo just outperforms the sti in so many ways.

im not totally sure but my guess would be this
fastest to slowest-
1. legacy gt
2. outback xt
3. forrester xt
4. wrx

between them all there isnt a huge difference in accleration, they all will be somewhat similar. i think the biggest difference you will notice is that on the legacy outback and forrester they have a 2.5 litre engine rather than a 2.2 or whatever is on the wrx, so they seem to have more available power all around. while with the wrx you need to revving very high for it to acclerate even somewhat quick.

I have an 05 WRX.  It is a lot of fun.  Acceleration seems a little slow until you learn how to 'launch' it.  It isnt super fast, but its fast enough to be considered a fast car.  You can mod it to be fast though.  Handles great, especially in snow.  It is noisy, but I love mine and have a lot of fun.  My dad has a z06 and  it is ridiculus.  If you just want a fast car that is cheapish, buy an rx-7.  You can get those things real fast real cheap.  Subarus are very reliable though, and I enjoy the product.
