ok this is in response to a pic in the ppl section regarding which jacket to choose.im just tired of people all trying to be something their not and making that the main part of their worries, not skiing.
wow so many of you have the wrong fucking take on skiing. i know it is 95% image based but it shouldnt be. and the fact that all you little kids who think they can kill it are concentrating their energy in the wrong places. wear whatever makes you warm. fuck because until you make it to pro status. what you wear wont fucking mean shit and besides if you spend all your time conentrating on skiing, and get good enough to become pro then you'll get the clothing hook ups and wont have to worry about what you're wearing cause all you'll have is nice clothes. but im not saying dont go out and buy nice stuff. everyone does that but dont make it a focus point. skiing is about skiing not looks. so grow up and be true to your sport.

i c what ur sayin but its the off season as far as skiing goes and its hard to concentrate on skiing when there isnt any snow so we have to put are concentration some where... so it might as well be skiing related, ex. buying coats

Yeah I like to pick out a coat that looks good and works good and that kid just looked like he wanted some advice but it was pretty ghey he came to newschoolers for it. Instead of his mom, your mom knows everything. This thread kinda seems like your just angry you don't have a cool lookin coat.

ya but clothes make or break or style. if u have cool clothes it helps u look good in the air. can u imagine if tanner wore fairly tight clothes? it would look so much sloppier

ya but it is also about defining yourself, and not how others see you, i wear wha ti think is sick, but i wouldn't come on here asking for it, decide that for yourself if other people don't appreciate it then oh well, at least your happy , which is all that counts.

I hear you, Cryss. Kinda sucks, doesn't it? This is why I never started skateboarding, or snowboarding for that matter.
In a way, I think image becomes a bigger deal when the gap between pro and amateur widens in a sport. Five years ago most serious newschoolers were all in the same general level of ability, so they didn't have to worry about looking good- it was the fact that you were a newschool skier that mattered. Now that the sport has become more popular, and now that pros are consistently throwing insanely styled tricks over huge distances consistently, the little man can't be content with his status as a skier anymore. He needs something to validate himself, and God knows his skiing doesn't rate next to the pros. Therefore, he's got to resort to his image- what he wears.
It's probably also a factor that we're all rich little trendy bitches.

image is nothing...ability is everything
When I go to other places beside my home mountain, I find that the people with the best equipment/ clothes often are the worst skiers. In fact it is surprising to go to a larger area in say, Vermont or NH, and see how many poor skiers there really are. Why go to a big hill and pay the bucks if you are going to suck all day long? You might as well go to a small area and brush up on your skiing skills and save a few bucks...god knows they have already spent a ton of dough on there top of the line equipment that is going to complete waste.
Albeit, it is pretty sweet to look good while you are ripping. But you should be ripping first, then looking the part...
