my iod battery is beginning to suck. new batteries go for like ten bucks but how hard are they to replace and do they last as long? And how much is it to get the battery replaced by apple? Any help is greatly appreciated +karma for help.

what gen are you talking about? i had a 3rd gen a while back i put a new battery in. super easy, just pop the case off. dont know about any of the new ones though. they seem a little more tricky. if you can do it though its worth it. my 3rd gen still works perfectly.

i have a 5th gen so it still has the silver back that looks like it would pop off pretty easily.

yea man, those come off really easy. just be careful around the hold button. dont rip it off. when you pop the cover off, tilt it up to disconnect the hold button and you should be good to go.

I did it with an ipod mini..had to pry the mothoerboard out at the bottom and then it was essentially a straight swap.
The replacement battery still holds a decent charge too after 6-12 months

the 5th gens only pop out on the left side so watch out for that, here check this video.
