Stand Alone Flash?

I know what I want, but not really what Im looking for... I want a flash that I can set in a location and have it go off when I take a picture. I think they are called remote flashes, but I not sure if thats right.

What are my options if I want a stand alone flash? And whats my cheapest option?

thats just looking like a flash that you mount in the hot shoe, I want one that I can have off camera?

ya Im not really wanting too many  cords, so that may work but what I really want was a remote flash? Ive seen them  before, they are just like boxes that slide into the hot shoe mount and have an antennae. I think they are remote flashes but idono really, thanks though.. hopefully some photog will see this in the morning

what you want is a pt 04 radio slave there like 40 bucks for transmitter and reciver.

there 200 for one, you need 2 to get your flash to work tho, so its 400 to get you started with one flash.

now your asking your self, why do the pw's cost that much more, well its because there alot more reliable and you can trigger other cameras with it, but if your just starting in flash's then defantly go for the pt-04's there good enough to get you started.

I think the pt-04 is what Im looking for but the flash that I have is a Nikon Speed Light 20, its an older flash for film  I believe, and the sites say its compatible for quite a few SBs but it doesnt say 20, will mine work?

oh and plus karma for the good help.

it should work if it has a pc cord, if not then go to your shop and see if you can get a hot shoe to pc adapter.

if you look on the reciver (tall one) it has a hole in it, thats the pc port (or plug or, whatever) your flash should have the same hole in it.

yep. but ive become used to PW's so it never came to me that you can put your flash in the hot shoe of the receiver, silly me.
