Gnarliest Inbounds skiing..

Which resorts do you think have the gnarliest inbounds terrain?

From my experiences.. I'd probably have to say either Squaw Valley or Alta. Both are just plain ricockulous.

i wouldn't say baker for inbounds, though theres definitely some good stuff, just not that much, tons of super close backcountry... crystal for sure though. also whistler.

im gonna have to aggree baker has the sickest in bounds pow skiing i have ever laid eyes on. i like it more then alot of the skiing when i lived in whis

definately gotta be up on the list, shout out to baker skiers!

Crested Butte is some of the gnarliest stuff ive ever skiied. couple good cliff lines but the steeps and trees are where its at. definately a contender

Alpental is sick in the BC, but its limited inbounds.

Crystal is awesome, but i havent tried its gnarliest stuff.. so i dont know.

jackson is the illest..... squaw has some good stuff but it all opens up into wide run outs, jackson u gotta be on ur shit all the time. crested butte is pretty sick but i dont like the cliffs there and the shale all around them... i like snowbird a bit, but i gotta go with jackson. bigsky sucks

you mean all the stuff by the lifts? because every resort has a wide area by the lift base...

That's kind of what I was thinking.  I've never skied Sqaw so I can't say anything from personal experience, but every picture I've seen of the crazier stuff has had a huge runout where you can do pretty much whatever you want--friends who have skied there have said the same thing.  It's a lot harder when you have to ski the line, shut it down in 15', then take the next air into some trees.  But big runouts are still good stuff!

go do it next time you visit. Some of the stuff in northback which they just opened (inbounds now, used to be BC) is ridiculously awesome, not as hard as some lines off the King but there are some tricky areas for sure.

Damn, came on here to post this! There is some gnarly stuff around Davos too, but not at the same level as Arlberg or Charm (I haven't skied France, but from what I hear)
Nomensteven, have you skied much in Europe? Some stuff that is off piste is still blasted and avalanche controlled. It really comes down to the resort. It's not the same as the way things work in North America, but it doesn't really work the way you're describing.

I would say Squaw and Jackson Hole are the top two I have been to. Alta\Bird is right behind them.

The difficulty with trying to generalise about Europe is that the rules can change from resort to resort let alone in different countries. As a vague general rule most resorts will have an "in bounds area" by which they mean the ski patrolled limit that they maintain and they'll come and get you if you're in trouble. On that basis Chamonix has to be considered as one of the most extreme mainstream skiing resort.

La Grave is the one that stands out though. I don't class it as mainstream becuase it doesn't groom its runs so doesn't get the average skier visiting it. Having said that its"inbounds" skiing is ridiculous! Literally unbelievable.

squaw and alpine are both redicoulous.   mconkey and other pros have said that they would rather be at squaw on a powder day than any where else... nuff said,  Alpine is just a smaller version of squaw but still has the terrain.  Whoever said shweitzer stfu.  that place is a joke.  however brundage has one zone that is like 60 degrees and leads to multiple  10-30 ft cliff oprions.

and thats not even that gnarly in comparison to some of the stuff... its just long, and the moguls are fucking enourmous.

The stuff off broken arrow can be way more gnarly... same with some of the stuff off of G.Chief.

Squaw and Meadows are a bit hairier than Kirkwood.. but kirkwood has more cliff options..

Mammoth is sick, but I wouldnt put it on the gnarliest terrain list. The entire lower half is just cruisy and stuff.

Crested Butte.. yeah, def.

Alta, of course.

Mt. Baldy is actually one that I'd throw up on here too.. that place has some CRAZY shit...

Jackson hole, yes.

They don't even put ropes in front of stuff like this in Chamonix. Its just considered more moderate terrain. None of these pictures show anything that touches Chamonix or La Grave or anything around those areas. There is some sick shit in North America like Alta, Jackson Hole, Crestede Butte, Snowbird, Stors Hill, Squaw, Red, its all sick but honestly. In none of these places do you have to worry about glaciers, crevasses, 2000 foot cliffs, or anything of the sort.
