Macbook or macbook pro

im getting a new laptop for the start of school this fall,
and i cant decide which one to get, but i definitely know i want a mac,
i do have to pay for half of it my parents are covering the other half

is it worth goin with the pro even for the money?
or should i save a bit and go with the macbook?

any thoughts on the subject???

what will you be using it for. if its just going to be a regular college thing get the macbook and save some money. but if your going for to school for photo or video stuff get a pro

i wanted to get my hands on final cut express and start editting more often,
that wouldnt slow down a regular macbook would it?
and a lot of music and videos too, which seems to slow down my desktop (dell) quite a bit

the one bad thing about teh macbook,
is it doesnt have a solid state drive.
that means it tends to get very hot after using it for a while.

there are rumors of new macbooks and macbook pros coming out possibly in september. So if you can wait a few months, i would see if the rumors are true.

ya i just bought a new macbook pro yesterday because it fit my needs but if your not serious about editing and graphics which is wat a mac is made to do u'd  be best suited to buy a pc with adobe priemere and save the money and put it towards something else

Haha some of the advice in this thread is terrible. Comparing a Dell XPS or an HP to a Macbook Pro? Seriously? The only HP that can compare is in their Voodoo line which is a different ballgame entirely. Dell is just shit, don't buy a Dell. If you want something comparable look up newer Lenovo's or some of the higher end Toshiba's. Both very solid.

As for specs, you really don't need much. If you are going to be using your laptop on the road alot a SSHD isn't a bad idea despite what people say in this thread. They are getting really good, they are really fast and they use alot less battery power. If you want to edit, you will need at least 2-4 GB of RAM as well as at least a 256 mb video card. You will be seriously gimping yourself if you don't. A decent processor is good obviously but you don't need the best. A decent duo core would be more than adequate. Personally, I wouldn't go for Vista. Not that it is bad, it's just too expensive and too much of a memory whore. Get XP professional, you'll thank yourself later. And as for really liking Final Cut Pro Express or whatever, you should look into Adobe if you get a PC. Adobe has some amazing editing software out nowadays that is just as good if not better than Final Cut.

If your getting a mac for final cut than thats a bad idea. Its pretty much full of crap. Save money buy a normal laptop which will probably get you more computing power for the same price and then get adobe premier. Best software i've used. But adobe premier is $799.

Last I checked though, FCP kills Premiere as far as codecs go.

I lol'd. FCP is so much better than adobe and i have used both. And i run HVX footage with final cut on a year and a half old MBP (2.33ghz, 2gb of ram) which you can get in a MacBook now, so at this point, the macbooks you could almost be fine with now. I always recommend a mac but thats because i have had such a better experience with them than windows computers.

both I think...I'm sure there are 3rd-party plug-ins you can download to fix this but since FCP already has it included in their program out of the box, it takes the cake! Plus FCP comes with a FAT stack of manuals for help if you ever need it.

PC vs. Mac is debatable, but I believe FCP dominates Adobe Premiere.
