Replying to Obama, anti-war? Not so much

cottonwoodarmada1651:
I just need to quickly set the record straight on this.  I see a lot of people (especially on NS) saying they like Obama because he's going to "get us out of the war."  This is just not the case.

In regards to Iraq, Obama wants a timeline for withdrawal, but he's said that we won't pull out if it's not stable and the country's not ready - for practical purposes, that's basically the same as what McCain is saying: we'll leave when we can without the country collapsing.

In regards to Afghanistan, Obama wants to send MORE forces there (which is probably necessary at this point, but again, not a very anti-war position).  You can see for yourself in this article: http://www.france24.com/en/20080720-obama-meets-karzai-afghanistan-usa

In regards to Pakistan, Obama has said on a number of occasions that unilateral military action in the country is something he would consider.  In his own words, he has said that, "if the United States had 'actionable intelligence against high-value Al Qaeda targets, and the Pakistani government was unwilling to go after those targets,' the United States should strike"  (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/22/world/asia/22tribal.html).

Now personally, I don't particularly like either candidate.  But I just want to point out that Obama isn't really as "anti-war" as most people seem to think.
