Advice on planning my BC trip. +karmz will be given

Im planning a trip to BC next feb, im going to retallack for 4 days but want to go somwhere else for about 10 days before. What ski field would you recommend around the nelson area to spend some time at? im a pow junkie and am not that fussed about parks etc. Iv read some other threads but they were all real old so maybe things have changed? whitewater sounded cool tho.

red mountain is awesome
more terrain than whitewater but the touring isnt as amazing.

yeah
dont get me wrong the backcountry is awesome and theres tonnes of terrain, but if your into more backcounty and overnighters and such whitewater is a better option.
also red and whitewater are an hour drive away from eachother so you can easily do both.

yea brah, go to whitewater, ive heard great things from there. not as great inbounds terrain as red, but more snow. and im going to be skiing at whitewater thios upcoming season, so then we can make some turns yo!

spend some time exploring red, whitewater, revelstoke, fernie and kicking horse. im naturally goign to recommend whitewater, but red's sick and revelstoke is somethign to expierience. its all fun here. come hangout and have fun.

word. fernie is like 2 hours from nelson and gets DUMPED on. i deff recomend going to fernie you wont be disapointed.

Red is absolutely sick, I went there last year and had a blast, just far enough inland to get nice dry snow and hardly anyone is ever there. I was there during the redbull comp and i think 1 minute is the longest I ever waited to get on a lift. Plus the mountain takes like 2 weeks to get tracked when it gets new snow and you can ride all 360 degrees of the mountain. lodging is pretty reasonable as well. Have fun man!

so i dunno BC too well but from what i hear Fernie is pretty rad. And of course Whistler Blackcomb. Greatest resort on the continent. i dunno how far it is from where u'll be at but it is oh so worth it. Plus just south of whistler is a little town called Squamish which has a killer microbrewery.

yeah plus if ya hit whistler, you got backer about 3 - 4 hours south if you enter the states... baker is pretty epic

fernie is on one side of the province. W/B is on the other, it's not really the ideal side. It sounds like he's planning for a southern BC trip. Check out Fernie, Kimberley, Rossland (Red), Nelson (White Water), Golden (Kicking Horse), Revelstoke and Kelowna (Big White and Silverstar)although those are more interior BC

man i seriouly recomend revilstoke. its got sick pow from wat i hear and if u like pow revestoke is your best bet. hope i helped.

We did the central BC trip last year (late Feb).  Revelstoke is awesome and it's only 20% complete, authetic town as well.  We had untouched powder two days after the storm directly under the lift!  5000 legit falline vertical can't be beat.

I was not impressed with Fernie.  The worst lift system for the price of a lift ticket in N. America and it took forever to open up the bowls after only 4 inches of snow.

Kicking Horse has great terrain but the snow is not very plentiful, revelstoke gets twice as much on the other side of the pass.

prety stoked on all the help from everyone so far! + karmz to all, cheers.
to those talking whistler, yeah whistler sounds fully legit, but not this time. im going with my old man and he wants to stay around the nelson area so travel isnt to much of an issue.
all the mountains so far sound sick tho especially red and reveilstoke, can people with experiences from these places hit me a few comments about it?

if your going with just your old man then dont fuss with it but if its more than just you guys look into a limo to get you from the airport to wherever your going, it actually sometimes turns out to be cheaper and can hold all ur stuff so conveniently. thats what my family did when we went to whistler and saved money rather than 2 taxis to hold all our shit. that and you just feel a baller

well... if your in the nelson area you shouldgo to whitewater. super close and it has really good snow. its smaller than red but you should at least try it one day.

i would hit up whitewater and red only. they are both close to nelson and offer all the terrain you could want. if you have time i would reccomend going to fernie but i think just shredding red and whitewater the whole time would be the best choice

yeah those are good points, i really want to learn a sick mountain well anough over there so i know where the good spots are to shred, rather than go somewher new each day and have no clue. thanks, +k for last 2

Def. hit up Revelstoke.  The first day I went was so epic.  30+ cm of fresh, 1 min. lift lines, some of the best tree skiing I have ever done, and cliffs galore.  The next time i went it hadn't snowed for a few days, and i still had no problem finding freshies.  Plus the back country looks incredible.  Put it this way, I bought a new pair of skis just for revelstoke.  I would suggest red aswell, although i have never been there, I have not heard anything bad.

Revelstoke if you don't mind driving a little. It's not far at all, and I seriously had the best days skiing in my life there. No green runs last year, maybe one or two this year, and the village is not glitzy like whistler, so everyone there is just super stoked on shredding. Really light nice snow, and no crowds, and nice terrain to play around on. Plus they keep expanding, so they might have a new chair in north bowl this year.

yeah thats fair enough. well technically id love to check everything out because everything would be sick and completly different to Nz. But i dont have a long time thats why i want to find a couple of really sick resorts to spend my time at and learn well ya know. thanks again for the help!

im biased because of the resorts mentioned ive visited whitewater the most but i absolutely love it.  the low-key friendly atmosphere only compares to one other place ive been (jay peak on the east coast) and the town of nelson is fuckin awesome.  very chill artsy/hippy/outdoors community. also the caf food at whitewater is the best you'll find anywhere, youd think that wouldnt matter but it is that good
