Two Plank Productions and i movie

if you don't work anywhere, you should probably stop spending time on NS and spend more time getting a job!Of course I didn't post a edit of mine to compare it to! 1) just started learning editing systems this summer, 2) don't know if you ever been to maryland but we don't have snow year round like washington, montana, hood, alaska, or whister or any of those big places so I can't really "bust my ass on my motivational snowmobile that i saved up for" and film powder skiing, 3) if you had so much motivation to go out and film YOU should go out on your sled that you saved up money for and give yourself the ability to be more successfull. not me cuz i'm 12, my mom doesn't even let me o into the city alone during the day. 4) i buy ski movies yep thats right and does my brother to. the reason that i thought it would be cool to compared some movies trailers is because the people that sell them might want to know how they compare from the opinyon of someone who buys ski movies (like me). this is a post forum and corrent me if i'm wrong but the whole point is to talk about skiing. sorry if you got offended because this trailer sucks that you apparently had nothing to do with.

Honestly, the filming should be half of the editing just to put it out there. When something is filmed well its easier to edit ( I don't think many people will understand exactly what i mean by this unless they are into filmmaking). The one trailer that stuck out for me the most so far (Still waiting for the Meatheads and Tanners trailers to drop) was Theory 3's Journal. Everything cam together so well. The vibe from the first few shots with the narration behind was so good. For me, based on the trailer, its exactly what I look for in a ski movie. Epic shots with a crew you get to know throughout the film. As far as ski movies go that gets me stoked to head out onto the hill. Skiing is about experiences and the filmmakers are there to capture those moments and bring them to you.
To make it clear, i'm not talking about title screens and text. Thats not editing, although it can be done in an editing program, thats motion graphics. Do those improve what your watching? hell yes! Just editing to the beat of the music isnt all editing is, for some edits yes its a large part of the flow (Watch a Jibberish or 4bi9 edit for example). Its also how you transition from one shot to the next, how you present the footage to the viewer. Its something that goes unnoticed most of the time because its expected. And as far as two plank's other edits, they could be sick ( could someone link me?). This teaser just didnt do it for me. And the person who said traveling to 8 countries with 3 helis being difficult with a few sponsors, shouldnt there first priority as a film company be the film itself? Its awesome they traveled alot and did alot of filming, but what they should really be worrying about is how its presented. If you have so many sponsor's banking on your movie as marketing for there product shouldn't it be as professional as possible? A perfect example is Meatheads. All eastcoast, 1 trip to canada for cat skiing.Very professional, original vibe,killer skiing, and it looks like they enjoyed themselves ontop of working there asses off. They had some big sponsors, even when they were smaller. And every year there films have gotten more and more epic.

however I cant understand how someone could still say the editing in both are close. Geuss I am and idiot.

Then again, I geuss I should just remeber this isnt hollywood. So if someones editing is roughly close to that of a highschool film student, it doesnt matter.

im glad you mentioned journal, cause both their trailers, the one with the celebration song and the one with snowflakes were awesome. began with a great vibe. laid back songs.
and when i think about the editing in those movies i think that attention was paid to the music, and each part of the edit and it really makes it stand out.
i've been watching the journal trailer since the day the first one came out, because it really does get you stoked for skiing, and thats a really good measure of a good trailer.
back to what you said first, i definitely know what you're talking about. i film a decent amount, and edit quite a bit for fun, more than i need to for edits and contests. without quality filming though, its really hard to make the edit turn out good. it happened for me this year because my camera was stolen, so i ended up with a lot of second hand footage form people i dont espeically trust with a camera, and it ws much harder to edit a good promo. im relatively content with how it turned out. (check it out if u want? critique and such.) but better footage would have stepped it up undoubtedly.
screens and text i generally just think of as editing, but technically youre right, its motion effects.

and i think camera work (stability, creativity, lighting, background, angle, etc.) are hugely more important than editing because, as you said.

but if someones filming is bad, it wont turn out a good edit.
