Another center-mount question...

I know there have been a lot of threads about center-mounting but I was wondering:  what is the difference between true center and recommended center and all the different centers?

recommended center is basically core center... so the center of the ski at the contact points.

true center is boot sole center, so the mounting points will eb the center of your boot with the center of the ski based on contact points, and not the center of the binding. Which is further up the ski.

There are a few other opinions. The second is how I mount my boots and the middle of my foot is right in the middle of the ski. true center... bam!

true center is at the dead center of the ski, and thats where the little mark on the bottom of your boot will line up with if you get your bindings center mounted...recommended is usually a little further back than center, and is usually where the ski is designed to be ridden at...i think with line invaders and anthems, true center is the recommended because they are symmetrical and meant to be center mounted.

Alright thanks.  I just got new AR6s, they have marks on the skis for center, 2.5 back, and 5 back (or something like that?) so I'm guessing the center mark on my skis is recommended center?

Recommeded center is an oxymoron because there is only one center.

If you want to center mount them get a measuring tape, measure the all of the ski, divide that length in half and mark center.
Put tape there or sharpie, just make an easy to spot, clear mark where center is. Bring your stuff in to get mounted and tell them to mark right on your spot that you marked. Even write down to mount on that spot.

If you do that it is a guarantee that your skis will be mounted dead center instead of being mis-mounted.

core center is not the center of the contact points, that is true center based on running length ie the part of the ski that touches the snow.
core center is actually the point on the ski at the center of the side cut, the spot on the ski that is the waist is where the center of the side cut is.

true center is just straight in the center of the ski, halfway between tip and tail. i personally think it is better to go from center of the contact points if you are mounting true center. this makes measuring a little more accurate and it also is a little more accurate for center because you dont ski the extra length from tips and tails so this is the actual center of what ur skiing

say your ski is 100 cm on true center 50cm would be directly under the middle of your boot
recommend would be where the manufacture recommends  the middle of your boot be based on the type of riding the ski is meant for and how wide the tip and tail are.

it usually says, alot of skis have a few lines for different mount points for different things

Don't mount your AR6's center, mount them like 1cm back. They are a directional ski. I have mine there and they feel exactly like they were centered.

I've talked to a lot of people and they say that ar6's ski fine centered even for a directional ski.  I might be wrong, but just because a ski is directional doesn't mean it shouldn't be mounted center, does it?

So when you go into a shop, do you say "I want these mounted 3 cms back from center" if you want -3 from true? Or would they mount -3 from core, or does it even make a difference? Not like sport check, more of an actual good ski shop.

No, you learn how to use a tape measure and draw the line on yourself. And an arrow labeling which end is the tip. Don't expect anyone to get it right themselves.
