just get the best video card they have and you'll be fine
but if you're using your laptop primarily for editing footage get a macbook pro

yeah, thats what i thought of at first but its about 1000$ more expensive with less: 2g of ram instead of 4 and 2.5ghz instead of 2.6ghz with the dell

I just recently picked up an HP notebook, works just fine with normal standard def footage. It has 4gigs of ram and 250 gig hdd. The graphics card doesnt really matter unless you play games on your computer. the thing with HD footage is it just takes up more space so but an external.

#'s arent everything when comparing PC to mac...
mac's operating system is designed and tailored specifically for doing memory intensive things like video editing, so you may have more RAM in a PC but it may or may not perform as well as a mac with less RAM...
(I'm not a mac fan boy I'm a die hard PC supporter, but I am willing to admit that macs have an advantage for certain tasks)

If your going for a pc i dont know why it would be a dell. Another thing, get a hard drive that runs at 5400 or 7200 rpm. If your planning on multitasking while editing definitely pick up a pc with more ram. dont worry about the hard drive space too much either, you can buy externals for pretty cheap these days.

idk, i just wouldnt go with dell if i were you, anyways
i think you might want to get a bigger hard drive, at least 500 gb's would be necesary if you are going to edit in HD

uh, no. especially with HDV, all the stress is on the CPU and memory. the graphics card is only important if you're doing 3D rendering... everything 2D is done by the processor

If you got the cheddah for it, get the MacBook Pro (Final Cut Pro or Adobe premier) if you don't like Mac get Alienware (i'm pretty sure I heard a bunch of good things about them. Software for windows (same as before but also....) Sony Vegas (don't know what version, but basically the professional one not express), it's a great user friendly software that will allow you to do almost all the same shit final cut and premier do, but at a learning curve. Vegas works wonders with sony cameras (mainly because sony loves to do things there own way a fuck ppl with other equipment, but other than that, any camera will do just added bonuses when you have a sony to sony interface

Getting that stupid alien logo on your computer costs like 400 bucks more than it would for an equivalent computer without
