Least favorite skiing slang term?

idk but for some reason I absolutely hate the word 'pow'.

I'm a pretty big fan of the term 'claim' which I never really heard before joining this site, I say it a lot now.

definitely pow or pow pow. it reminds of guns and such. and gnar/gnarly bugs me to no end. i've heard that word from to many wannabee 10 year old gapers before.

i respect you asian allen, but there are some things defenitely wrong with that post

on a skateboard and snowboard the only difference between switch and fakie is which end you are going to pop off of.  It all depends on where your feet are. And being that skiers can't change where our feet are, it all depends on which end you pop off of.  so if you happen to pop off of your tails while riding backwards then yes, you are riding fakie.  But if you are a normal human being, you will pop off of your nose.  This means that you are riding switch. 



your kickflip thing is correct but when you say that it is more proper to say bs switch up to fakie i disagree.  NOBODY EVER SAYS THAT.  9 times out of 10 you would just call it a bs switch up. 

hope this all makes sense

this being said, it is switch, not fakie or cab

haha i love how passionate you are about this. i disagree because fakie in skateboarding is half about the direction you are moving and the other half is about the foot placement on the board itself. so if you're riding the uncomfortable direction as if it was your comfortable direction (as in you are riding backwards with your trailing foot at the end of the board and your leading foot on the bolts) then you are riding switch, which is what people of the opposite stance do normally. fakie means you're popping foot stays the same while you're riding the uncomfortable direction. so you are technically riding with a stance with more weight on the front of the board (which is normally your tail). a fakie flip is popped from the other side of the deck as a switch flip (fakie can be thought of as a switch nollie position). so when you do a kickflip to fakie, it is assumed that you will land in that foot position because otherwise your not doing a normal kickflip, so people accept the fact that you will be riding down in fakie position after landing. this distinction is specifically for skateboarding, and i think when it comes to skiing, the term switch (the generic all-around term for backwards) should be used always because the distinction is invalid and nonexistent in freeskiing. fakie is a specific foot positioning distinction for skateboarding, and if you want to get super technical and analogous to skateboarding(which i dont) then we can agree to call it switch if your forward mounted, backwards if your center mounted, and fakie if your back mounted (ponder that). as for rollerblading, i know nothing.

oh and in skateboarding landing backwards is usually called switch. the only time it isn't is on a quarterpipe or bank as you mentioned.

I don't like the word STEEZE, everybody and their grandma say it now, at least where I live, plus when french-speaking people say it, it sounds more like our swear words with a Z at the end than like the actual word

skiers and snowboarders can't ride switch. It comes from skating. SKATER not board or skis switches 180.  If ur locked  onto the equipment, u can't be switch. It's actually fakie in both skiing and snowboarding.

I hate 75% of it.

I know its already been said but Steeze, Gnar, Schralp, Epic, Jib, Stoked, and Pow pow are some of the worst.

doesnt really apply to skiing but when skiing i know a lot of ppl who chew and they all insist on saying "chawski"
