Uv filter for the camera

what does it do does it help the video quality or what i have just heard they help

they filter out UV light to give you sharper contrast. But if anything, they're a real inexpensive way to protect your lens.

here's a story
I work at a place that sells Cameras (for everyone in western Canada it's london drugs)
but a guy came in asking about warranty on his lens
saying he had a grand canyon like scratch in his lens or filter (he didn't know if he had one)
he brought his camera in after we said to go get it haha.
turns out he had no filter so what we did was we shipped it off to Nikon and they're replacing the outer glass. on the lens for $150 plus shipping.
from what the guy who sold him the camera says is he was to cheep for the $25 filter.
the original filter and the replacement filter is still $100 cheeper than the new glass on your lame ass 18-55 lens
