Somethings wrong with my computer....

please read guys, i need your help.

so my Acer is acting weird... its running XP with sp2
so im good with computers and ive tweaked it here and there. yesterday, my norton antivirus would pop up when i tried to open firefox, and it saidlike, antivirus cant use the repair function.... so i clicke dok and i had to reinstall firefox. then all yesterday, every 15 minutes a Scanner Module pop up would come up from norton.... so i was a bit confused. i was gonna uninstall it, but i had no time. so i woke up this morning, and i clciked on my zune software on my taskbar, and it said, unable to locate path, so i browsed, and found it, but it still didnt work. then i noticed the majority of my programs are those little windows, instead of their icon. i went to add or remove programs and i clicked remove norton, and it said it was already uninstalled. it said this for almsot everything.

the only programs that are working for me now are firefox, msn and winamp. obvisouly theres more but this is fucked. can someone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help!!?

when i try to uninstall it, it says its already unistalled. when i try to install it, it says to delete the old version. shitssssss fucked

maybe try starting your computer in safe mode, and see if that will let you uninstall norton.

for the record, norton is so shitty. it is "antivirus software" and it is basically one big virus ready to completely fuck your computer.

True story.

Maybe try a system restore to a few days ago when it was still working correctly and then promptly uninstall Norton and put on AVG.

And he is all about System Restore if you don't know.......

i know norton sucks. im getting a new laptop right before school starts either way.

so let me gget this straight, i do a system restore, set it back to lets say 6 days ago.... then my computer will have everything it had then/

i never had norton on my computers (have avg) but a month ago norton pops up from nowhere and tells my computer is infected and blablabla and in fact its norton thats fucking everything

yeah norton is one of the worst scanners, its overprotective. i'd get kaspersky or avg

you may have a virus that is making norton act shady, try an online virus scanner to see if your system is clean

fuck. i tried to do a system restore. it has like only 3 possible days. none of them work. i do it, then reboot and it says no changes were made, this restore point wont work. and then i click the arrow to go to june, and it will only stay in july.

I don't use an antivirus.  I don't feel it's worth wasting my RAM, it causes shit like this to happen, and I've never got a virus, I check the processes on my computer manually every once in a while.  Antiviruses are almost as bad as viruses in some ways.

idk whats wrong, but it seems like the only thing to do now is save anything important to a disk or removable hard drive, and then do a reinstalll of xp, and everything else.
