Reed College...?

i dont go there but my sister was looking into it and its a real good school i guess. portland is dope and you wont have any trouble finding people who go to the mountain often

Reed is one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country and a notorious hotbed of leftist thinking, and expensive.  If you are bummed they don't have sports, it might not be the school for you.

thanks for the comments....yea thats pretty much in line with what other people have told me. for academics its a good match for me from my SAT scores and AP scores and GPA and blah blah blah...and im kind of a granola munching lefty hippie and i havent visited there yet but i plan too...i just wanted to see what other people thought of the place....

I didn't attend Reed but several of my close friends have, and I've hung out on the campus quite a bit. So here's my two cents: Reed is an intense place any way you look at it. Academically it's simply nuts; your classwork will be as hard, or harder, than at any college or university in the world. I've heard some gnarly stats about how many students take a year off after their freshman year at Reed. You cannot underestimate how intense the academic environment there is.

Consequently, people at Reed are usually a bit off the deep end- intellectually, artistically, and of course in terms of drugs. Everybody's brilliant, most people are very interesting, but for me there has always been a holy-than-thou vibe in the air at Reed; a lot of self-consciousness and self-centeredness; a lot of veiled snootiness; etc. As a self-described "hippie" you might be surprised that you probably wouldn't fit in at Reed as well as one would think, as the trend there is predominantly "hipster": fashion obsessiveness (of course, with an affected air of total nonchalance), cigarettes and worst of all, a blasé, "post-everything" attitude. (That last one I picked up straight out of the Reed newspaper.)

I don't mean to burst your bubble; Reed is an absolutely amazing place for people who feel comfortable there, but it's definitely not for everybody. I highly recommend that you visit and check it out for yourself!

On the good side: they do have a nice ski cabin in Govy that you can stay at whenever you want! (I've crashed it before pretending to be a Reedie.)

my parents house, the house i grew up in, is 2 blocks away from Reed. like Kami said, its definitely not for everyone but if you fit in there, its probably your best choice. academics are ridiculously challenging and everyone there is brilliant. they definitely study hard but they also party hard. one of its common nicknames is weed college. its definitely a place you need to visit and meet with other students before making a decision though

if you're into heroin and paying 100.000 dollars a year for school then reed is the place for you. if you wanna come to portland to meet awesome portlanders and oregonians and skiers then reed is the biggest shit hole possible.  great school but way over priced and everyone is a spoiled asshole on some sort of hip expensive drug.  trustafarians.

Come to Bend and go to OSU on the Cascades Campus and be on the Freestyle Ski Team I just started. (Bend Winter+Urban)(Mt. Bachelor+rad factor)² = dope+r than REED

But from what I'm told Reed is a very good school. You're just far from the mountain compared to Bend being 22 miles from the fifth larges ski resort in america

me an my cousin hang there every now and then. its a cool place. once we were walking by the music hall and there was a girl who was singing and playing a piano like no other. so we stoped and watched no more then 2 min a car of burly women pulled up and got out and started yelling at me an my cousin calling us pervs and shit.. i was like... the fuckin window is open and she aint naked and shit... and then a nother nite my cousin was insded one of the halls and i was smoking a bowl outside and i saw a guy with a cig and a glass of wine... i asked him for a smoke and all he said this was his first time on acid and then  went on his way... but yeah that part of town is really really rich and shit.. but i known a couple people that whent there. you really got to have you thinking cap on really fuckin tight
