What Digital SLR Camera?

I'm done snappin shots with my shity digi cam, so i was just wondering what all you photographers out there think is a good intro SLR Cam... canon, nikon, any thoughts?? +karma for any helpful posts.

Well considering you want something to help you progress i'd recommend a Nikon D80. I pulled a couple features off their website

  • High-speed 3 fps continuous shooting: Up to 100 JPEG [Large, Normal] or 6 NEF (Raw) consecutive shots.
  • High-performance image processing engine: Faithful reproduction of vivid, natural colors with rich tonal graduations.
  • Instant response and ultra-short shutter lag: Ready to shoot whenever the decisive moment arises.

    • pretty much perfect for sports shots (skiing..) and anything else you'd have in mind. It'll run for around 800-900 but you could probaly look around and find it for cheaper.

    my mom has that camera and the pictures are fucking sick.  ive been taking some pics on my backyard setup and everything is just sick about it.  to bad she doesnt trust me with it on the mountain.

    leaning towards a canon xti or an xsi. any thoughts?

    the xti and xsi are both great cams the xsi is a little better than the xti but if cash is a issue then the xti will be perfect for u

    I have a nikon D80, i love it. but you don't need all the stuff it does for starting out. I prefer nikon to cannon because of the selection of lenses(in my opinion is better) so I'd tell you to get a D40 it does everything you need and you can get them pretty cheap.

    thats where I got my camera. and remember that almost all online stores don't include a battery/charger in the price advertised. a good battery is usually around $100

    you will need a CRAZY good lense to use the XSI to it's full extent.
    unless you are willing to drop ATLEAST another 800-1000 on lenses.
    the XTI is probably a more practical way
    alot easier on the wallet too...

    ^ yeah i hear ya but after 3 full days of research and tons of comparing i'm still leaning towards the xsi. i actually had a chance to shoot a few pics with the two and the differences to an amateur like me are hardly noticeable... but if i'm dropping good amount of cash on a camera and for about 200 dls more i can get 12.1 megapix, a decent EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens, 3inch display + several other nifty upgrades, i think for the long it will be a better buy.
