Topsheet materiel for backyard jib

So, i posted in the build-a-jib cult a couple of days ago and now I'm finished construction on my box, i have a few questions about what to put on the top so it slides. I already purchased a couple of pvc pipes incase i can find anything else that would work. I'm holding off installing the pipes becasue i really like the look of the jib without any pipes ont it.

Now, I'm wondering about some kind of clear, rather transluscent topsheet so that you can see either paint or whatever I decid to put in between the top sheet and the rail.

           Option #1 : An epoxy or polyurathane that can be poored onto the rail. about a few inches think, to make a nice sliding surface.
           Option #2 : Cutting board materiel, I have lots of old kitchen cutting boards at my place, and i was wondering if that would work at all as a sliding surface.
           Option #3 : A paint on or brush on lacquer, also wondering if this will slide, might be better and cheaper then option one, because that way i wouldnt be adding more height to the rail, just 4-5 coats.


Suggestions, comments and experience are welcome and also needed, because I'm super stoaked on this project and i want to try it out, I'll try and get some pics up of the rail aswell

puckboard and plexiglas are pretty typical box tops.

i just built a summer rail and i used kitchen bench tops they work really well except for where you get of the rail the edges of the skis cutt/plain the wood a little buts its fine its nothing dramatic just dont let boarders on to it cause they really rip up your edges have fun mate

Cutting boards may be HDPE.  Not sure if yours is though.  Use HDPE though.

can HDPE be bought with little to no money? And, is it clear, like, almost completley transparent, cause I do want to do somekind of graphic or drawing underneath the top sheet so theres just a little more a custom feeling, you know?

go to a hockey arena and see if there are old plexi glass walls that arent bening used anymore

HDPE can be different colors. To be honest, it doesn't live to the hype. I have some black hdpe and it gets shaved off my box. So it doesnt crack or anything, but you can catch edges on it, so I def. recommend puting coping on the sides. You might want to use lexan, but anything you use will prob get scratched up and it might be hard to see what's inside. I would go with lexan plastic. whatever material you use, it must be at least 1/4 in. thick. Those options dont work well either. Cutting borads prob wont work well, sprays and liquids that set will not be even. PVC will work well, except for your graphic thing.

Hmm, thanks for everyones input, I've got some more thinking to do, I'll post pics of everything once its done(jib + drop-in + ramp)

UHMW = Better than HDPE
I picked up a piece from laird plastics that was 18 inches wide and 8 feet long and 1/4 inch thick for $60.

Right under jibs it says funbox: A box with an UHMW surface!!!!!
So use UHMW. Its the best. I used it last winter, no coping, and its still in amazing condition.
