Replying to Has anyone happened to notice...?
This may be just something that has caught my attention, but for about the last 5-6 years i've seen/purchased many snowboarding movies, particurally Mack Dawg. I've seen a few ski ones, too, but we all know that the shred flicks are a bit better.
I've noticed around a few months to even a year after their release, songs that were virtually unknown and then displayed in the movies will, very often, show up in commercials, TV shows, etc...I can think of about 10-20 instances where this has happened, but i won't waste my time since most of us are just skiiers and haven't seen the movies. Just trust me, it's almost weird how much of a sure thing it's become....a few fellow NS'ers can attest to this.
Many of you have probably seen the "Picture This" trailer from MDP; that song was used in a commercial shortly after....i know this happened with Huddle Formation by the Go! Team in Teddy Bear Crisis with some car commercial, even though that song is a bit more popular.......
I apoligize for the long post....my question is do you think this is some sort of coencedence of artists' hitting their peak and getting popular, or does the ski/snowboard industry help bring out much of the good, unknown music into the mainstream world? Or something else? I'm just not sure how it works, and I'm interested to see if anyone else has noticed this trend.
