Big Mountain Ski - Options

Fellas.

I am dreaming my next ski purchase for my up coming winter in Europe.

I am currently sking Volkl Gotamas. My dream ski would be 190+ and 105+ under foot.

With out doing to much internet surfing I am thinking:

Volkl Gotama 190cm
Armarda Ant 190cm
Kingswood Archetype 198cm

I am not sold on reverse camber skis as I will ski it hard and fast all conditions hard / soft / crap (look forward to any comments) so hell bents, lines I am sitting on the fence.

Volkl Chopstick - Symetrical ski (I only ski switch 5 - 10% of the time, not enough to jeperdise forward skiing)

Having not purchased skis for a couple of years, I am looking for any ideas of what is on todays market.

if your not interested in a rockered ski i would get the Amplid Infra-BLACK. they are an all carbon fiber ski that is absolutely ridiculous... perfect flex, perfect width, virtually weightless, colored all black... what more could you ask for?

The Amplid looks like a real nice ski. Stiffer the better.

Faction 13 look sweet.

The Combas are a really nice ski, but it has got to be a twin tip

Legend Pro XXL. If you don't care about switch then fuck the twintip and get something like this that skis nicer than anything mentioned here.

That is as good a list as any of hard charging big mtn skis for the alps. Forget stuff like hellbents and KW Megafats- you know as well as i do they won't be versatile enough for the alps, where each run is likely to involve a wide range of snow conditions. I personally think the new Line motherships sound like the absolute dream big mtn ripper in the alps- both stiff and rockered for the best of both worlds. Early reports are good but it may be an idea to wait a year to see how they report durability-wise.

If you do wait, or don't want rocker then Infrablacks or 13s would be the call if it were me, plus it's good to support your local brands.

194 XXL's would probably be your best option if you weren't hung up on getting a twin.  Directional skis will ski way better and aren't as wimpy as most twins are built.

But if you absolutely need a twin, you're looking in the right direction with 190 Gotamas and ANTs.  Just keep in mind that they ski shorter than 190, so they don't really fit the criteria.

Don't rule out flat tail skis.  You said you don't ski switch alot, and if these are going to be your charging skis, flat tails vs. twin tips makes no difference.  Except for more running surface, like the dude above said.  So basically a manlier ski.
And the moment garbones are SICK!  I do believe I will purchase a pair.

I was in the market for a similar ski as you are. Ended up with a 189 4frnt vct, just arrived in the mail, and super excited to ski em next season. They were only $315 on backcountryoutlet.com

Basically every company makes a gotama like ski that is 100-110ish waist, 185-195 length. The goat got popular and they all jumped on the bandwagon.

Its happened to rockered skis the past couple of seasons too.

ya. legends might be the way to go if you arent really skiing switch. otherwise, I would personally go for either a moment, kingswood or ON3P (ask iggyskier. Im not sure if he has any spots left, or what skis he still has to make, but his skis are pretty much exactly what you have described). the all carbon would probably blow huge on hard stuff because carbon has absolutely terrible damping properties. there may also be some strength issues (I think). I dont remember exactly, so some one can correct me if Im wrong, but I think using only carbon with no glass in a ski is quite brittle or something. I should know this. all I know is that it has the potential to be bad (and $$$), but I cant remember if that was only because of the vibrations or if it had to do with strength as well. Moment, Kingswood, ON3P.

Had a big vote of aproval for the kinswoods from a mate:
kingswood 198's are the best ski ever made. Period. Skied 'em all last winter and loved em so much bro. I mounted them quite foward and they rock skiing pow, switch pow, jumpin, straightlining, everything.
This tread is getting me so pumped about skiing this season - yea ha.

So many great looking skis above. cant wait to get on the internet tonight and school up on all of them

Binding wise - Do I go for the marker dukes on the new skis or do I put the dukes on the gotamas and put my comp 20's on the new skis. If only life was all about making decisions like this, and not having to got to work!

Obsethed has a 105mm Underfoot and comes in 189cm. They'd kill it anywhere, and are an amazing big mountain ski. Just look at the guy who designed them.

Second on the mothership 195s.
I compete in big mountain and this will be my ski for next year...long fat stiff, but also has some early rise in the tip, and prolly a little more freestyle oriented than some of the other big mtn skis out there....should be sick. Ill prolly get the 185 and 195
