Ya, Ryan Leech is pretty much the worlds greatest trials rider and a super nice dude. on another note, follow the thread rules. post a video whenever you post in here: it should get me and other riders stoked!
thanks for that, but the idea was for it to be on ns, so that we get stoked on biking while being stoked on skiing, and it can open some ns eyes to different styles of biking. def some good vids there
does northshore stuff scare the crap out of anyone else? ive only done it a couple times, but being like 10 feet in the air riding on a 6 inch wide platform that turns and goes up and down scares the shit out of me. like how the hell do you bail? if you screw up your gonna land upside down in trees and rocks with your bike on top of you. one time i was biking on this trail and it was the first time i did that particular trail. anyway i hit this one northshore thing that looked pretty easy, but it went from like 3 feet high to about 10 or higher, and i was riding on a 2x4, it did a z shaped turn, not to sharp, then went down, then flat, then a slight up to flat to a 6 foot drop or so. and once i was on it there was no way to bail, so i just had to stick with it, and i was totally inexperienced, like the only northshore stuff id done before was like 4 feet off the ground at the absolute most, and like a foot wide was about as narrow as it got. so being 10 feet in the air on a 2x4 was just crazy, like i thought i was gonna die or something, if i fell its straight to big ass rocks and tree's with only a helmet. i was trying and concentrating sooo hard, like i dont think id ever been so focused and using literally every muscle in my body to its fullest to ballence. it was so intense. it was like i was tight rope walking for my first time ever between two buildings.
always scope out your path before hitting it if you are inexperienced. ALWAYS, no exceptions. even experienced riders should scope out advanced trails before dropping. i have seen a kid fall 10 feet off of a boardwalk, and break his neck. i have seen a guy come ripping down a boardwalk to a small gap jump, fly off the side of the jump, and smoke a tree at 70 km/h, 20 feet up the trunk. when i ran over to him and asked him if he was okay, he coughed up blood. stick to green trails until you are ready for blue, blue until you are ready for black, black until you are ready for true freeride, etc.
if you are scared of what you're about to do, you shouldn't do it. don't ride trails until you are comfortable with the challenges they present.
and no matter how good you think you may be, get armour. i have a sixsixone pro pressure suit, mace leg pads, oakley padded shorts, local-brand kevlar gloves, pro-tec full-face, the works. i've hit trees at 10k without armour, and it wasn't pretty. i've hit trees at 40k with armour, and came away beautifully. i hate to be a bitch about it, but safety first.
he is the greatest. i saw him hop like 6 feet from standstill when he was giving a demonstration in Whistler. well, maybe not six, but i think it was at least 4 and a half feet, seemed like 6 to me though because it was so amazing. most of these vids are pretty old though, freeride publicity has died down since Red Bull stopped doing Rampage.
