Skiing for the olympics

K I posted this in another thread but I think it needs it's own thread.  I see so many kids saying they don't want skiing in the olympics cause it'll become mainstream.  It's kinda sickening


I hate to say it cause I love that skiing is a very core group right now but we NEED the bandwagon gapers.

Right now there are SO many kids that deserve to be sponsored but can't be because there isn't enough money in the industry.  And you can say that's not a big deal but if you're serious about the sport and want to make it as a professional you're going to realize at some point that it's damn hard to do.  It's not enough to be one of the best skiers in the world.  you have to somehow find the money to get to competitions or photoshoots or whatever it is that you're gonna do to make people see that you're that good.  It's damn near impossible to save the money to travel to these events and still be able to train often enough to not get you ass kicked when you get to these events.  thing is once you finally are sponsored it's not like it's going to help out that much, cause it's still gonna take you forever to convince the sponsors to give you a travel budget.

If skiing were in the olympics it would be so much easier for athletes to go to companies (outside of the industry that can actually offer them some decent money) asking for some support so they can acctually focus on training and going to Xgames, us opens, world cups and other events



Sorry for the rant and sorry if I discouraged anyone from wanting to become a pro skier but it's the reality of it.  Skiing is one god damn hard sport to make it in right now.

there are of course pros and cons. if it becomes mainstream, there is of course a lot more money in the industry, which works out good for everyone. if it doesnt, it will always be that awesome sport that all of us stay true to. the one were so passionate about

Andrew, you are a great skier, and I don't want to disrespect you, but skiing shouldn't be about money. If you are looking for money, get a real job and keep skiing as something fun you can do on your time off. So, dont really complain about sponsorship and money. Sponsorship is more about luck than skill.

Even if skiing gets into the Olympics, it is super hard to get a place. Even if you get the place, the skiing federation in canada is so disorganized that money will never be redirected to you. Even less, they wont even go out of their way to help you financially. Most athletes in every sport has a job, some own their own companies.

Oh there's no way I think skiing should be about money, you do need money to ski though.  Fuck I see kids who care more about the partying they get to do than the actual skiing.  Actually I hate to say it but most of the industry seems to be like that.

Look at JOSS.  SICK event but it was incredibly frustrating to read that people would take the day off skiing so they could recover from last nights party or to rest up for tonights party.  How can people say they're in it because they love the sport when they do stuff like that?

its funny because i was just rewatching a bunch of the JOSS edits.... those kids worked so hard to get that shit done... and all the edit were amazing.. you have to realize that pros and other ams that ski all the time dont look at skiing as a sport... its more of a lifestyle... skiing's all about fun and so is partying, and the party just moves from on the hill to off the hill.     not to mention, ive skied over 10 straight days in a row... but wasnt working nearly as hard as these guys were, and it works your body over.. a day or two of rest seems understandable.            


but i agree... getting hp skiing into the olympics would do a great thing for our sport and our companies..

i agree. i mean, i like partying and getting shitfaced as much as the next guy but lifestyle skiers are fucking wack.

what i mean is people who are like, "i ski and i go to skier parties but i can't do shit!! nor do i try shit!!
i wear a bunch of ski clothes and have a bunch of bad ass shit even though i still never progress!"

baically a lifestyle skier is fancy way of calling somebody a poser. but kind of on a different level.

i understand what you mean now... i thought you were talking about core skiers that consider skiing more of a  lifestyle than a sport... like myself...

people can interpret the lifestyle of skiing however they want, so what if someone goes out and parties and still enjoys skiing, and buys shit from companies in the industry that only doing us good!  its different if someone brags about the way they live around skiing and creates a false image of themselves through lying, fuck that everyone will know it so who cares.  If you live around skiing and live that lifestyle its called a ski bum, its been around since day 1.

back on track with the Olympics and skiing.  I think that for how much our sport progressed, and with the people that have acted as innovators to put skiing in its place of today deserve to ski in the Olympics before its too late.  Like Tanner Hall, the dude has been feeding the fetus of skiing and its about time its born to the world.  If it doesn't happen in 2010, its not the end of the world, then it was meant to happen in 2014  or whenever it does.
