The "n word" and its usage on ns.

i've noticed recently that the usage of this word has increased quite a bit, to a level that is fairly inapropriate. i think that most of us would agree that calling people "nigger" is below us as fairly civil human beings. This usage also shows that we as a community are ignorant that there are in fact black skiers. african americans dont appreciate it when we use said word, and as there are im sure several black skiers on this site, its not too cool for us to go around using it.

i remember when the drop of the n bomb was a bannable offense.

so please ns, lets show some decency and use a fucking thesaurus instead of this word.

theres so many things wrong with it its not even funny.

lets start with the fact that no shit white people dont get offended when they are insulted, they werent enslaved for hundreds of years.

as for your black tv channel argument. of course theres no white channel because they are all white channels.

im way to lazy to keep arguing its too late at night. but the word, along with nigga, negro, and every other connotation are completely inappropriate and i agree should be bannable

that entire argument i got from my friend who is black. i know he doesnt account for every black person, but tis a good argument. 
there are plenty of terrible things that happened to white people that we could cry about,  half the racial insults towards blacks have nothing to do with slavery, and yet its still much much more offensive than anything racist towards a white person. 

and as for every tv channel being a white channel, of course every channel is aimed mostly at whites, because the population is mostly white, so it kinda has to be that way.  anyway thats not the point, i was saying that the name, white entertainment television, or stars white, would piss off people like crazy, if we had a white history month, people would flip shit.

i think its retarded to ban people for saying nigger, nigga, negro etc... nigga and negro have nothing to do with slavery, negro is a shortened word for negroid which is a word for black person. 
you are all trying to be nice by saying that racism towards blacks will get you banned while every other racial slur towards other race's and religions that can be just as if not more "insluting" than nigger, are totally fine.
i like to treat blacks equally, just like any other person, because thats what they are normal fucking people, so they should be able to take shit like any other person.

but thats the thing, all those other insults are looked at as jokes.  yeah i think its better just to not use insults like that at all, but thats never gonna happen, i just dont see why nigger to MOST people, is so much worse.  and as for the shit thats happened to whites, well the halocaust is one, and id say jews definatly count as whites. 9/11, the plague, and thousands of years of bad shit that i dont know about that were probably pretty damn bad.

as for your examples they suck. the jews as i pointed out were oppressed, and they are the victims of slurs as well, which they shouldnt be. 9/11 was a terrorist attack that killed a group of people. by your logic than whites have it worse than anyone else because of all the terrorist attacks against them. not to mention the fact that 9/11 was an attack against america, a multi racial country. not only white people died. and the plague wasnt caused by a person it was a disease....

haha, ive got like 5 gay friends and you can call them fags all you want.  i guess where i live is a pretty friendly place, there arent many homophobes or anything around here, and not many extreme racists, so i guess im used to a pretty relaxed attitude about it.
and shit i could mention all the wars, the entire civilizations that have been whiped out in the thousands of years of recorded white history, etc.... i really dont think blacks had it any harder than whites did in history.

but thats not the point, im saying that every race, religion, whatever, has gone through a ton of shit, and overall id say we are about equal.  and i just think its bullshit how the word nigger is though of as a much worse racial slur than anything else, again thats MOST peoples thoughts.

nobody likes racism or any of that crap, but you have to realize that half the time when people say something racist, its a joke, its not meant to hurt peoples feelings or anything, sometimes it does, but seriously people need to get over it, racial slurs, racism, hate, all that bullshit is never going away, hell taking these insults lightly is probably the only way to make words like nigger less harmfull.  like how gay doesnt actually mean gay half the time, its just another insult, you call someone gay and nobody gives a shit.
anyway its all just words, people need to learn to stop getting so butt hurt over these stupid simple noizes and just relax.

as far as i'm concerned, you can go ahead and say it to your friends or whatever in a joking manner. but seeing it on ns is pretty annoying, seeing as how there is usually no reason for it to be there. especially since it IS considered a racist term. you have to think about who is going to see it when you post it on the internet, and you need to consider what people are going to think of you when you use it. i can understand using it with your friends and people you know, but i'll bet there are a lot of you who won't say it in public if there's a black person standing nearby, so as not to offend them. the same rule should apply on ns.
btw, i'm half jamaican, and i only take offense to it when i see or hear someone tossing it around as if it was nothing, in a public place.

i talked to my black friend about this once. he told me that him and all of his family (who's black) up in new york really don't care about it. he said he is more offended when people call him african american and stuff like that. as far as i'm concerned, it's just a fucking word. unless you use it in a derogatory way towards somebody, i don't see the problem. i do see a problem if it's used like that or just tossed around like any other word. who gives a shit though, words will only be words. quit being a pussy and suck it up.

that was actually a pretty racist comment, bud. my mother is black and she skied every weekend until she tore her acl playing golf. i am half black and i ski as often as i possibly can, and i'm better than most of the people at my hill. maybe i'm a rare breed but it is still very offensive to me that you would say that.

    black people need to stop being so offended when whites use nigga, and whites need to stop being so afraid to say it. we need to realize that in order to eliminate racism we need to forget about it. just say the words dont think "oh shit that might offend someone" If we make so called "derogatory" terms just words they will in time, lose their meaning. Call white people niggas, call black people crackers. Just forget the words mean anything. If we keep trying to stop people from saying those words, it teaches people that the words mean something, and that there might be some truth behind the meaning they imply. Think about when you were a little kid, shit was considered an awful word, but now that you are older, and you use it more often there isnt as powerful of a meaning behind it. I know its a bad example but its the best I could come up with.
            thats just  my opinion, criticize it, call me ignorant, I dont care its what I believe. But dont say I havnt been around minorities enough. Last year I was in a boarding school and one of my roommates was black, and from a bad part of NYC, the other roommate was from korea. My black roommate got so pissed when ever a white person said Hey whats up my nigga" but he would say it to me so often. When white people said nigga he thought they were purposfully insulting him, but if we treat nigga as just a word we wont have that problem, it would be like calling people assholes, or dumbass.

^ or, how's about instead of using it MORE OFTEN, so that loses meaning, we could just stop using it? i'd rather not hear it at all than get used to the idea of it being used all the time. i mean, it's not as if there aren't plenty of other words you can use instead of the n word.
