Possibility that freeskiing could have existed without snowboarding

I've been thinking about in and drew the conclusion that ballet skiing might have progressed skiing to the point is is today. Snowboarding obviosly helped but what are your opinions.

half-pipe was invented by skaters, not boarders. as far as freeskiing coming along as a result of boarding, boarding came along as a result of skiing, so where would boarding be without skiing? i think that freeskiing would have come into itself without boarding, i was freeskiing before i knew there was a name for it, and when i found out that there was a name for it, i told everyone i was a freeskier.

I think we would be where we would if there was still skateboarding, but without that too the chance skiers would do rails is minimal. There would still be jumps and probably by this point pipe, but not to sure about who would think to do rails if there was no snowboarders/skateboarders.

a bit off topic, but isn't this how it went....someone invented skis, skiers invented snowboards, then snowboarders invented twin tips. could be wrong but i think i heard somewhere that thats how it went down.

I definitely think there would have been freeskiing even if there was no snowboarding.  People would always try hitting jumps out of curiosity and it would eventually evolve.

i am a snowboarder and know that he is only publicized through espn as a pipe jock. and snowboarders did bring halfpipe to the snow.

well, you have 2000+ posts on a ski forum, you should know tanner halls roots. He doesn't do pipe much anymore anyways, one contest a year to prove he is the best and then he just rips the rest of the year.

were you even alive 4 years ago? Tanner is publicized through espn as a pipe jock now because he only skis pipe in the x games. before his big crash on chads he never did slopestyle since, if you knew what you were talking about you would have known that tanner became well known for winning so many x games slopes.

i think a lot of you are underestimating the influence rollerblading has had.... and still does.... just cause its unpopular and overlooked doesnt mean its not influential...

whats up with all these "creative" and "new" grinds we're seeing these days...

thank you rollerblading...

and skiboarding/snowblading as well... if i remember correctly... skiboarding was actually the first result of skiers wanting to do snowboard like tricks.  line was actually a skiboard only company not that long ago.... it was actually in the x games and pretty poular before the newschool ski scene hit...  and skiboarding can be credited to rollerblading as well...

first of all, stop trying to massage your epeen over thall knowledge.
I feel that skiing would not be the same as we know it now without snowboarding. Skiing would have been more  influenced by skateboarding and rollerblading resulting in slow, lower spins and more urban stuff. Also grabs would be pretty much void.

Seriously though, all sports are connected.. and we've all fed off each other. The pioneers and leaders of each sport help progress other sports by paving the way. That's the cool thing about sports.. is that the top athletes have a mutal respect for each other regardless of what sport they are in.. they all know that they are basically doing the same thing out there.. just different avenues.

Think about it though. It's true that skateboarders helped pave the way for halfpipe.. rail tricks, flatland tricks, and has ALOT to do with the grass roots of snowboarding. But at the same time, surfing paved the way for skateboarding. The first skateboards were modeled after surf boards and were designed because kids wanted a way to 'surf' on land.



Surfing also played a large role directly in snowboarding. Then you've got snowboarding and skiing who have both been feeding off each other.

There was a time where the ski industry was just not doing so great. It had lost alot of the fire and people just weren't as interested as going up to the mountain.. Snowboarding came along and revamped the whole industry. Bringing a new blood to the slopes..  And creating a HUGE industry, following, fasion trend, etc. There's no doubt it's had a strong impact on freestyle skiing... And we've both been progressing each other.

There's also rollerblading who played an integral part in freestyle skiing.. Line? Mike Nick? or remember all the pros that got into skiing from rollerblading? Wasn't Chris Turpin a rollerblader at one time too? Alot of that style has translated over to skiing and helped progress it..

And I think freestyle skiing is doing the same for rollerbladers.. They are seeing how HUGE skiers go and how hard they are throwing down now and it helps them push their sport farther..

And can't forget bmx.. it has played a large role in motocross and freestyle motocross. And the list goes on.

Totally wrong.

The New Canadian Airforce (JP,JF, Mike Douglas, Shane, and Dorion) were all freestyle mogul skiers on the canadian team, and worked to dish it out when skiing was in its whole "carving" age. Salomon decided that it was going to experiment with it, and sent it over to them. JP Auclair won the first US Open, held up the yellow ski as a trophy and completely changed skiing from then on.

Then FIFTY by WME came out, I saw those guys destroying everything on those yellow skis you could go backwards on, and I never looked back. Became a skier for life, and here I am.
