His style needs about 3 years of work. I puke watching him sometimes. I could care less if he can do some weird double flip, when its super hucked, his hands are arms are all over the place, and then he tried to afterbang, i just want to put a bullet in my face.
I don't usually take part in these threads but Tanner fucking slays BC, slayed the x-games pipe with a couple weeks of training and I'm sure as we'll see in Massive he still throws down in the park and urban. Either him or Jon, who holds it down mostly everywhere, and he's even versatile enough to do decently well as a racer. Sure he doesn't have Seths big mountain skills but I'm sure he could hold his own if need be. There are plenty of others that thrown down in all aspects of the sport, but those two come to mind first.
There are way more big mountain themed movie companies out there than for park that actually make cash. The companies making the most are originally only bc/big mountain. Big mountain skiing is what got skiing the big bucks back in the day, and it was still incredibly hard to be a pro.
Plus, it's hard to access for some people. I agree with you wholeheartedly that park is NOW creating more cash for the industry and therefore requires more riders, but those riders are easy to find...not so much with big mountain. This is why events like the Red Bull Cold Rush are so essential to skiing, they include all kinds of skiing in it.
Big mountain is still one of the major parts of skiing, and it's even with park in terms of importance if not more important to our roots.
This thread is kinda pointless because you hafta classify what type of skier. That being said in terms of "omg i cant believe he just skied" that i hafta say Seth
first-tanner hall close second-jon olsson for next years JOSS they should have jumps, rails, pipe, big mountain, moguls, and (there would have to be) racing. this would prove who was the all around best skier who could take on anything the mountains could throw at them
what the fuck? so skiing has been spearted into two different sports?! I'm sorry but you're being a fucking retard, skiing is skiing. Also, get off your park skiing high-horse and look around. Shit does happen outside of your little terrain park.
but seriously, tanner hall. and seth old footage on actualy park jumps is impressive. i had never seen him spin before that. and i would imagine that he would be an amazing racer if he can rock the lines that he does in the BC
tanner hands down i cant even remember how many x games medals he has, let alone gold, and now he's slaying the backcountry and big mountain. if your looking for an all-around skier than he wins and anyone who thinks old park pros can become backcountry pros is stupid
hahaha. and thats why he's pro and your not. fukin wank. stop talkin shit about someone who is better than you. and i agree this thread will never end, because everybody has a different opinion on what makes a better skier (backcountry skills or park etc etc).
Seth morrison does things that are unworldly. I have to give some love to tanner, cause he really does shine as being so well rounded. But if I were to find the gnarliest hill to ski down (which is what skiing really is, going down a hill), I would ask seth morrison to do it, casue I know that he would bust out the gnar, do it in style, and blow your mind while doing it. Once I see someone else do something as consistantly, as much, and as gnarly as seth, then I will consider them. until then its seth. He is awesome.
I like Jon in Big Mountain, but he is nowhere near Seth yet. Seth has not competed on the circuit for a long time. Even though Jon won that contest, he was not the best big mountain skier to take part in it.
This is not dissing Jon, he is really improving in big mountains, but he is not Seth.
And the idea that any old park skier can be a big mountain/backcountry skier is complete bullshit.
no. just no. seth is not comparable. anyways, i hate to say it but tanner pretty much is the best overall. killed halfpipe, slays the BC, urban is down and park is still probably sick. which we'll see in massive i'm sure.
