It bothers me so much about how every single person in the world knows who Sean White is but when u bring up the name Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont, TOM WALLISCH, they are like uhhh who are they. You can't even have an intelligent convo about skiing with someone if they dont know who they are...

i'm glad skiing is smaller. I don't want it to ever get like snowboarding is. So we might not get in the Olympics but still we will have our pride. Pros don't need to be rockstars, they should be reachable.

The thing is freeskiing has the perks of a being huge sport, but not many of the drawbacks.

skiers, freeskiers, snowboarders go to the same resorts so you have an abundance of venues.  A lot of the gear you use is crossover stuff from mainstream skiing, snowboarding.

At least it's not like downhill mountain biking or long board racing.  They have proprietary gear that has to be specifically designed and venues are hard to come by sometimes.

Maybe people don't know who your superstar athletes are, but in the end who cares.  If the sport explodes then you'll end up where snowboarding is now.  I'm a snowboarder and I don't mind.  I mean you don't get the tight knit community feel, but I'll trade that for an abundance of top flight venues and a good variety of equipment.

when pros become known too well they become overrated like that damn ginger, okay he's good but he's not the best and the xgames is too busy focusing on his broken board than the other guys giving it their all and throwing down better runs than him. i think tanner hall has been hit with the ego stick a touch because he's probably the most well known freestyle skier by gapers and most people out of the tiny newschool community, face it, we're small, not that many people do what we do so that's why we aren't that well known

i totally agree with u man. its cool are sport is so small, i always laugh when ppl call me a panzie for skiing, it doesn't fucking matter. we aren't out there for the image we are out there for the love of the sport and having a good time. i see some snowboarders that just board because there friends want them to and dont look like they are enjoying them self. when the whole purpose of the sport is to have fun

the great thing about MOST pro freeskiers is that they are so chill and they don't give in to all the stroking of their egos, whereas shaun white-skin-red-hair-freckle-monster is a pompous ass who thinks he is one of the coolest dudes on the planet just because he's a pro snowboarder. i hope freeskiers never change because, hands down, we ARE some the coolest people on this planet. (=
