You gotta pay attention to the Watt Second (w/s) rating of strobes, that's a measure of how much power they put out. White Lightning puts out a 1600WS monoblock head which is pretty badass.
Profoto is running a deal on their new Compact line of monoblocks, something like 2 2200ws heads, stands, umbrellas and bag for relatively cheap.
If you're not looking to spend thousands of dollars, what's wrong with picking up some Nikon speedlights? SB-28 FTW. Oh and Vivitar 285's too. If you're not looking to kill daylight, you don't need huge amounts of power.
I'm pretty sure he wanted *cheap* as epic as AB strobes are, they aren't cheap... On another note, I made my own strobe, it is doable with a bit of skill and time
yeah i just want something for like street shots or maybe some night jump shot.. nothing to crazy. i could prolly jiffy rig something up to.. so could i just the strobe itself? without the umbrella and tripod? would that be easier?
