alright so i just found out our high school's varsity ski team is going out to loveland colorado to train over thanksgiving. i ski at a hill (one ski lift and like 20 trails) in the middle-of-nowhere, new hampshire and haven't been out west since i was like eight, so i'm very, very, very stoked.
so is loveland a good mountain? whats the park situation there? and slap me of i'm a noob, but will there be powder during thanksgiving? i don't know anything about the conditions/typical ski season out west so help me out.
and once last question- besides my race skis, should i bring my PEs (mounted super far back, good for like all mountain and the closest thing i have to powder skis lol)
or my future k2 disorderlys (symetrical, centermounted, slay park but meh for everything else)
alright thanks

Loveland is pretty fun when it snows you can get into some really open stuff above tree line. Ive only skied thier park in spring and then it was pretty good the jumps were a bit scary because the location of thier park is on a steeper run so its easy to overshoot. If you can you should check out keystone or breck or something in that area because its only 45min away

yea that place is sick. i got over 100+ days there this past season. just watch out for the hate on ski racers, we hate them. i would bring your PE's to be honest, you will have more fun on them out here at loveland. yea there are some cool park features but the big mountain is a lot better and there are natural features to hit that will be more fun to you. some good trees and wide open skiing.

I have invaders and PE's, and it's a world of a difference in pow. Bring your PE's if you have any inclination to ski pow, center mounted skinny skis don't turn well at all in pow. You'd be leaning back too much and they're not wide enough to ski switch in pow, definitely a bad situation for powder. PE's are amazing in not-too-deep pow and tight trees.
I don't know loveland's terrain, but if there is fresh snow right before you go definitely bring the PE's. It's not like you can't ski park with them anyways.

PE's for sure like everyone else said.
all the times ive been there last season were pretty dope. only been there on pow days. theres some fun stuff in this trail called rainbow? or over the rainbow? i forget but some good stuff over in that region. each time i was there patrol bowl also opened pretty late so freshies until closing was nice. but loveland isnt the most crowded place either.

loveland is a fun place to play around or avoid crowds on a pow day. however, that early in the season, you probably won't have that much pow, and the park there is pretty weak. so i'd say forget your new k2's and just take your p.e.'s. you'll have way more fun skiing there with traditionally mounted skis. i promise you.
although, it may be worth your while to bring your new sticks for a trip over the pass to keystone. they'll most definitely have some fun park features up by then.

pssh i did fine on my invaders all season in pow with like 30 solid pow days. Dont listen to everyone else centre mounted skis work fine for pow, and yes u can ski switch in pow on centre mounted park twigs, i was ok with them, just landing switch in pow was a little tough

haha, I remember that pic. Yours were really short though and you are pretty light, so little invaders worked fine for you. I have first hand experience with 'vaders and PE's, and it's not even a question for pow. Centers work great on groomers, but freshies- PE's.

so if theres gonna be powder, i'll definitely bring my PEs. but it's gonna be thanksgiving so i kinda doubt that there will be any? and i could always use my GS skis for bombing groomed stuff, so is their park good enough to bring my park specific skis?
thanks for the help by the way, im kinda leaning toward PEs now.

their park is probably the worst in the area.

^yeah thats a real positive answer considering loveland is surrounded by some of the best parks in the nation. Loveland is sick if you actualy like to ski, i mean its no Jackson Hole, but its sick because no one skis there. Def a chill mountain for sure.

i actually take it back, from my last runs of the day there on the way to the car/bus, vail had the worst park, but if you're at vail for park, there's something wrong. for loveland they have some good runs, i'd say bring the PEs, pow in CO is very hit or miss, but the PEs will be good with or without fresh snow. only bring the disorderlys if you're able to get to breck or keystone.

I went there for one day this season. Super windy, but other than that it was spectacular. Did some hiking. Trees. Well, I really wasn't into the trees there, but I'm sure I will be when I go back. Also, there was no park the day I went.

keep in mind that thanksgiving most likely wont have pow, and even if there is some, then there probably wont be enough terrain open to take full advatage of it due to lack of coverage that early in the year....bring your park skis, that way you will be sure to at least hit some rails...

It really just depends on the luck of the year for snow conditions, but you will most likely not have powder. For example this year was a very slow start and almost nothing was great during thanks giving, but in previous years the conditions have been fine. In the whole summit county area I think loveland has the worst park. For a unbeatable park and mountain early season head down to keystone or breck (both are really close to loveland and 1000 times better).

Also check out some of these links for Breckenridge and keystone to get an idea of their parks.

that all looks sick. the interactive park thing keystone has was awesome lol. i'll talk to my ski coach about that but he's kinda hard ass race nazi so it might be hard to convince him. i've got almost 6 months and half our boys ski team likes freestyle more so maybe though.

if you guys are makin the big trip out here, why are you goin to loveland? its decent, but there are far better mountains not much farther on i-70.
don't expect powder, usually thanksgiving weekend is decent groomers, but tons of texans. i dont know about the park at loveland, but at copper last year there wasn't much to speak of by thanksgiving, just a small jib park.

this is just an idea but... if you know that you will be going to loveland then maybe don't buy the disorderlies? go for a wider park ski and then take them? when i was in colorado my Lizzies were the perfect one ski quiver but i guess they are too fat for use in NH.. but maybe a fatter symmetrical ski? or you could remount the PEs further forward to get better park performance out of them? possibly look at line anthems? or even a moment reno rocker if you arent too in to jumps at home? there are a lot of skis you could look at that would give you sick park performance and still be ok in pow..
