A much needed change has happened in the sport?

Well it seems like the driving force behind all sports, the people, have once again caused change to happen. Last year there were a lot of hate threads (what am I saying, every year has a lot) towards big spins, poles vs no poles, and steeze in general. As the trailers for new movies to be released this fall trickle onto our screens I am beginning to see change in the way it's being done.
Movies seem to be taking a more laid back and relaxed manner than they used to. No poles are showing up more than ever now in the big leagues. For example Andy in the latest Hunting Yeti release was rocking the no poles backcountry on the booters, and made it look good every hit. I just watched the Slamina trailer and spins are being toned down and the style is beginning to flow. I'm really enjoying the way things are going.
Are big spins being reserved for the comps? I don't think so. There is the odd 10 here and there for a big jump, maybe even a double of some sort. Everything else seems to be between 5-9 with a variety of grabs.
What other trends have you witnessed over the past year?

I don't think the trend with big spins going away has applied to Mr. Hatveit or many other skiers. Sure hunti yeti didn`t have crazy rotations and that floaty tricks look dope but, I think pro`s will either do what ever type of spin most comfortable or would look sick on camera. So deffinetley big spins are not being reserved for big comps.

I`ve noticed a lot of hand drags and little spins and big butters off rollers.

well we've still got kids claiming that kentworthless's hucked fucking 9 was the steeziest thing ever. but yes, SOME people are starting to realize that smoothness is best. a big trick can still be smooth, just sketchy hucked shit is retarded.

It happens every year. Somebody comes up with something new (Gorrilla Steeze, No Poles, Afterbang) and they do it well. A bunch of kids on newschoolers try to do it and make it looked forced (gorrila steeze + afterbang) and everyone starts hating on it because these kids make it look shitty. Eventually lots of people make it look good and the hate slows down.

That's true but big spins will always look sick.

Honestly, I think the most style is made from the person. Not what trick the person is doing, but the person in general.
I've seen kids who ccould huck swtich 10s at 13, but made it look like shit. I've also seen kids who barely push themselves yet are comfortable enough with their own style to make 1's steezy.
for me it's about flow, and for me flow comes from music and enjoying skiing.
Yeah I can't throw 5s yet, hell I can barley throw 3s. But I don't care, and i enjoy skiing.
I agree that things are beginning to change. I was watching ski porn this weekend and saw the focus of big spins and gnarley rails, then I watch Idea, which focused on a more laid back music centered approach. I think more and more films will lean towards idea rather than jon's double flip.

The change?
There are five movies that have blown my mind with teasers or footy: Road to Nowhere, Turbo, Such is Life, The Massive, and 44 days.
The change is that I can't really decide which ones to buy, they all look equally ridiculous. Gah.

to me, big spins and jumps will always have a place in movies because thats what impresses most people. i would much prefer to see flowier shit, lines, new axises, and different style than double cork 12s but whatever.
what really annoys me is how unlegit rail skiing is.
the way we measure how good someone is is how many times they can fucking ballerina hop around on a rail. my dad watched a 4bi9 edit once with me and he said it reminded him of ski ballet.
obviously its not physically possible to press shit like snowboarders, but at least try for fucks sake. press combos, drifting tricks, 5050s, lets get less spinny more pressy on stuff.

A lot of shots of big spins look dumb thrown together, as well as a lot of shots of small spins thrown together, as well as a lot of the same direction thrown together. It just needs to be mixed up, because both a super floaty five and a really fast 10 look sick and show different parts of a rider.

from watching his skiing, he does exactly what this thread is about. He spins to hell off every jump, (there was one cool cork 5 in one of the edit's) he pretzels everything( like everyone else these days), and makes threads on NS asking what song to use in his "season edit." all of those things combined forms an equation resulting in a pretty damn unoriginal kid.

Its cool how different skiers are starting to do their own thing. There is no wrong way to ski, and maybe people are starting to realize that. After all it is "free"skiing

Its not that much different. Were just all sick of talking about that crap.
ski movies are always great, they get you stoked to go shred. I dont see another purpose to the general populace really.
