The question is Will Skiing make It?

Will newschool skiing/freestyke skiing or whatever you call it go big? Will it ever bcome as big as snowboarding? I think if it does that's great but also not so great. Being a park skier at my areas ,maybe not yours, sort of sets me and my friends a part from the typical person. if there are more skiers you become less unique. I think the major reason I don't snowboard is to remain unique and be an individual. on the other hand the progression will be pushed faster if more people ski. Is there a point where progresoin maxes out and stops. Hell if progression stops we all will probally start telemark skiing in the park.

True. But the more people in the sport means cheaper gear for us and more parks to fill demand.

i hope so but then it would be alot harder to standout to people if skiing did go big then the possibility of pipe in the olympics would be alot bigger than it is now

true that we is makin a comeback, for a couple years there in like 2003 there were a lot of snowboarders, now skiing is makin it bigtime.

still doesnt come close to what we spend on ski gear... i mean my pow set up itself (without boots) was 1100... my park set up was only 400... and my boots were 550... damn, i dropped 2 grand in just equipment this year...

why is everyone so worried about progression and getting the word out and all? Like i see that new people brings more money into the industry and im all for that but really just because skiers arnt featured on sportscenter doesnt mean that what they do isnt legit and fun. Is skiing going to be as big as snowboarding maybe, but who cares they are 2 compleatly differnet sports and frnkly as long as everyne can keep shredding with my buddies all winter who cares where the sport goes

right. but my point is that the snowboard market has grown and the gear costs more. as freeskiing grows prices will prob stay the same or go up.

That's your own fault. You can get gear for much cheaper than that. My pow setup was only 350, bought from demo so minor use, and my park setup was only 175. There are so many deals out there, especially here on NS, and through pro-forms, which are way easy to get too.
The only thing I would recommend buying new are boots though. You don't want somebodys pre-packed out boot. It won't fit right.

I think snowboarding got bigger just bc it was newer and it was seens as rebelious. A lot of kids prob just thought it was cool bc it was different than what their parents were doing. But now theres a shit load of old people on snowboards, including ski patrol. So I think the gap should be narrowing especially since skiers go so much bigger off of jumps and in the pipe. But thats just my noob opinion.

i completely agree with everything you have said. i kind of love being in the not as common pack at my hill. its pretty fun. but its also good if skiing gets big because there is more money in the sport

dude, you acn find packages deals in snowboard at around 200$, try finding some twins, binding n boots for that cheap, its impossible ( and im talking about can $) Sure snowboard ca go very expensive, but its starts cheaper

Not sure why this is even a question. Of course skiing will "make it," whatever the fuck that means, or if it's even desirable.

Ski sales greatly exceed that of snowboarding nowadays, so while you may feel like a minority in the park at areas and resorts more accustomed to suburban crowds, you'll see that (or have been seeing it) shift of more skiers a bit as more people pick up, restart, or switch back to skiing.

More companies have been putting money into large events and media, and we are seeing that now, with multiple tours, huge practically prime time events (Xgames) movies and shit.

The change is gradual. Its not like one year you go from freeskiing being "underground" or something to supreme household everybody-does-it type shit. But hell, look at the success of NS over the years, the influx of major competitions, the majority of ski sales being twin tip (and skiing easily outselling snowboarding), etc, etc. Of course skiing will "make it," its practically there, you just can't fully see that yet.

and i for one love supporting my local shop (not so local) Decade... some of the chillest dudes with the best customer service i have ever delt with..    and i did pay near retail, but its well worth it for the service ( i blew out my 4fnt deadbolts 3 different times this season on my eps and they were very good about fixing it fast and right, and in the end, actually hooked me up with the 1018s..)

I disagree park skiing is just getting started. Now more than ever theres interest in the sport by all kinds of people, and you see more and more gapers with trick skis. Its gonna keep rising, and keep getting more and more well known and popular, until someday...

Normal people will know that trick skiing is NOT skiboarding and involves jumps and rails. People have those associations with snowboarding, but not with skiing yet. We shall overcome.

This is soo true. You can buy a board set-up for practically nothing nowadays, or spend an arm and a leg. What NOMENSTEVEN said "the range of prices has expanded."

ive found that there are less skiers at a lot of areas, but they shred so much harder than the boarders. at my mountain we have a pretty tight knit group of skiers.
