Running shoes .. help

anyone reall into running that could maybe point me in the right direction , I need a running shoe that has a fair amount of arch support in it .... anyone know of any shoes specific i should maybe check out ?

Alot of Brooks shoes have high arch support. As do Mizuno's. I'd go find a running shop and have them look at your feet. They can tell if you pronate or have a high arch or whatever just by watching you walk around and will be able to point you in the right direction.

Best thing you can do is go to an actual running store, Footlocker or something like that won't cut it.  From my experience, Saucony is a great company, I'm running with the Omnis now, and love them.

i actually went to a place earlier this week to get fitted for running shoes. i knew i had the wrong type of shoes for my foot and i wanted to get a professional opinion. i ended up buying a pair of brooks which are wicked comfy and are working out great for me.
yeah so i would suggest finding a place that specializes in running shoes that will check out your foot and stride to fit you.

fitting shoes is just like fitting ski boots, if you plan on putting on some serous miles you need to go to a legit running store and get your foot fitted, otherwise you can have some serious foot pain, theres lots of companies that make shoes with high arch support, but you can always put super feet in your shoes. right now im training for the twin cities marathon, im using a new balance shoe as that is what fits my foot best due to its wide toe box, and high arch. my best advice however would be to try on lots of shoes and see a shoe fitter.

go to a running store. period.
they'll need to know what kind of running you're planning on doing, indoor/outdoor, long/short distance etc
also if you've had any injuries or foot conditions, it would be prime information as well.
i go with nike and asics.

thanks for the suggestions , i don't think i really have a legit running shoe store like you guys are talking about though , all i have are footlockers , champs and what not , typical shoe stores you'd see in a mall .

I'm sure you do, you just don't know about it. Look up local 5K races in your area and see who they are sponsored by. More often than not local 5K's are sponsored by running stores in the area. Or talk to a running coach at your school or something.

On top of that, stores you would find in the mall only have really generic running shoes. Your chances of finding a specific shoe that you need aren't that great and would probably have to order them online at like eastbay or something.

You might be surprised.  I didn't know I had a running store near me until a couple months ago, and it turns out I have 2 good ones and at least 3 more small ones.

i have a really low arch and i use mizuno running shoes, ive been really pleased with them thus far they have plenty of support and their very durable

seriously? Every mizuno I've ever run with gave me alot of pain for the first week or so because the arches were so high and I have mid height arches. Weird.

from my experience id stay away from asics, ive had two pairs fall apart on me when they were fairly new. brooks have been really nice

it's all a matter of personal preference, opinion, as well as usage.

keep in mind that you will have to get new sneakers around every 3 months or so, if you use them avidly.
running on worn down shoes is just as bad as running in non-athletic sneakers.

I put in over 1000 miles a year in high school, running on only Asics haha. Its all personal preference. I will never own anything else. I've owned like 30 pairs of Kayano's.

just get like a bunch of dr scholls massaging gel insoles

not
go to a shop were they can help you and your specific needs
even if you dont buy from them you will know what your looking for after talking to them

dude just get some LA sports, there the best........................................lol. dont actually, i have some addidas shoes that work awesome and i do cross country so they have a lot of miles on them. but i also got them at one of the special fit places where you run and they calculate and shit and figure out the best shoe for you

If you don't have a specialty running store, try nordstrom.  They won't be able to help you much, but they have a no questions asked return policy.  They don't care if you wear them, keep them for a year, whatever.

I'd tend to stay away from the new Nike Air max 180's, or any of the nike shoxs. Personally, I don't like the feel of the way my feet are sitting in that sort of stance, and I've heard stories of the air bags popping while kids are squatting alot of weight in them. I have a pair of asics for longer distance running, then I have a pair of Nike Free shoes for short sprints and such for football training. I personally loved the Nike free shoes, I felt like they strengthened my ankles alot because they work a different part of the foot, but because they don't have literally any cushioning I never wear them for long distance running.

I would get some custom insoles. That way you can trade them in and out of shoes.

for high arches I'd go brooks or mizuno, or just pick a pair thats super-comfy and buy some really nice insoles

i generally have used all asics. You really can't go wrong with them, but they are a bit expensive. I haven't heard of too many runners who have used them and not liked them.  I tend to to stay away from larger brands like Nike or Adidas that mainly specialize in other stuff though, not that their equipment isn't good (for example, all of my soccer equipment is adidas) but i just don't think their running stuff is as good.

how you're using them is the main factor.
some shoe companies are going to better fit the needs of one runner than another.

Ive run indoor track and cross country and AAU and ive  always gone with the brooks and asics. They both are a great running shoe and last pretty long. If you are looking for an extremely light pair that will only last around 5000m go with some mayflys. They are around 50 bucks and i think they weigh 3 oz, but they fall apart after about 4500m.
