Okay so I really want to try djaying, I don't mind putting in the time, but how many hours before you can beatmatch with confidence, (I have a pretty good sense of timing rhythm, I've played sax in some funk/ska bands etc) and, whats the best kind of music to learn with, I'm guessing something like funkyhouse, nice steady pitch and tempo, any words of advice etc would be super helpful (I searchbared it but there was nothing too similar to this question)
cheapest setup. a computer running ableton or traktor with a midi/usb mixer attached. ableton and traktor do automatic beat matching but if u really want to learn u can turn it off.
i'd say the best music to learn it with is like some really slow laid back rap. but you can do any music you want, its all about having fun, so just do it with what u have.
Ive just started doing the same thing this summer. I have a Numark Total Control and I just use Cue LE which comes with the Total Control. From my little experience mixing trance has been easiest, vocals are a bit harder I think.
what he said^
I use traktor 3 on my computer, works great, and song with steady tempos (and no lyrics) are great to begin with, get the extended version of tracks ( sometime called club mixes) they have long intros and outros so they can get mixed pretty well
Cool, I really like the idea of Vinyl's tactility, so I might consider using time-coded Vinyl with Traktor Scratch but to start with I'll get some layed back music to mess around with and get the basics, probably Ebay for the decks??
There's this one kid at my school that has DJed for 2 years and he makes $400 and hour now DJing...fucking ridiculous. I'm gonna try to do it though, I'm gonna use 2 cd players, and my friend has a pa system which has a mixer and speakers. All you need is something to play your music with, something to change up your sound, and something to project the sound with. Also make sure whatever you decide to play your music with has a tempo control and make sure you have the capability to play two songs simultaneously if you're going to do any mixing.
is there a cheaper way of doing it? I can pick up a pair of Technic DDs for £60 ($120) then a mixer for about £15 ($30), I'd love to know a cheaper way if there is one!
