ya 3g was still like in every phone when the original iphone came out, its just an excuse to make a new version thats basicly the same thing except something they forgot the first time.  And it sucks that you have to buy aplications for it, apple has such a monopoly.

hey, paper clip prices have increased over the last year, including a paper clip in the box is a big fucking deal!

complaints include.. shitty camera:2mp when competitors are rocking from 5 - 7.7. no flash. no zoom. no adjustable exposure, resolution etc.
still no flash. every website ever has flash. what the fuck?

should be able to turn the phone sideways to type. not everybody has the slender fingertips of an underfed mongolian adolescent. I have man thumbs that the iphone just doesn't accommodate.
still no bluetooth. you can't send and receive data from other cellphones and computers
no removable battery
and an "unlimited" data plan should also include unlimited texts, not 150 or whatever bullshit at&t/cingular gives you.

i thought i heard ATT had a one year contract to be the sole service provider. has it been a year since they first came out?

The reason it's on AT&T is because they are the only phone service provider with a large enough 3G network to support all the new smartphones. No other company has gone to the level of AT&T to provide 3G to all of it's customers.

Additionally, while the iPhone may be $200 cheaper than it was last time around, after the 2 year agreement you will have paid roughly $200-$400 more because the contracts are more expensive. So really, it's not that great of a deal.

The headphone jack is NOT recessed. They did fix that one. I don't care about MMS, or a better camera, the two things that do piss me off are no cut/paste (SOOO basic, WTF?) and no support for Flash. However, since those aren't hardware issues, I imagine they will be fixed in an SDK update somewhere down the road.

Ok so the deal is....the 8GB is $199 is you are able to upgrade, if you are not able to upgrade you add $175 to the deal.  that makes the new 3g iphone $375.  THEN the new 3g users will be charged $30 for the data plan ( yes you have to get this plan to have the iphone) instead of $20 like the 2g phones have.  SO in the long run even at $199 you are paying more in a 24 month contract than the old iphone. 

3g is the 3rd gen of GSM, it means you get broadband speeds while in the internet.  It means you get 14.4bits/s if i remember right.

No. AT&T has the largest 3G network. That is why the Blackberry Bold and the iPhone are only on AT&T. Verizon may have some 3G coverage, but no where near as much as AT&T.

And ya Ryno, most people think it's an amazing deal but really its kinda a ripoff. Oh well. Good marketing scheme I suppose. Another reason for me to get the new Blackberry instead, which will be way better anyways.
