Final Cut Pro vs. Adobe Premiere Pro

From people who have experience using both, I'd like your opinions. What are the pros and cons of these two video editing programs, which emerges the ultimate victor?
Note: I'm trying to determine what my college laptop is going to be. The video editing capabilities is the deciding factor. All my life I've been heavily biased against Macs, in fact I hold a deep contempt for them... but if Final Cut Pro is significantly superior to Premiere...
Opinions, please.

they are baisically the same
they have the same layout/display and the same effects and tools and everything
if u get a new mac then you could try both of them because of the new intel core so it supports both final cut and adobe premiere
from my experience i have found final cut more user friendly and simple wich is good wen you are starting out
but really u cant go wrong either way
i would get a mac lap top either way tho, but they are more expensive....

You really need to consider the power of the hardware for editing video; the hardware is going to be a bigger factor than the software. Also, if you're not already used to one program, then there's little real difference to you, the learning curve will be about equal.
And, for serious editing projects, you'll be better served by a desktop with more power......... also, if you're going to college, look into your college's computer systems; mabye you don't need to spend so much money on your machine if they have capable facilities.

I've had a bunch of experience with Premiere Pro, but I never really had the opportunity to get creative with it. It was in a high school class and I was producing a DVD for the Drama Dept. So I guess I've got a head start there.
I was already planning on going as baller as possible within my price range on the laptop.. so I'm thinking hardware isn't going too much of an issue, especially if I stick to a PC.

I've used both, though I am much more familiar with Final Cut. The one great thing I can say for Premiere is that it is really good about managing your files for you. WIth final cut you really have to be aware of where your files are going when you save/create them. You have to tell Final Cut where you want them to go, otherwise it'll just stick them in a default location.

Don't forget also, that you can run Windows natively on a Mac now.
I personally prefer the Macbook Pro laptop hardware; I've seen quite a few of them put through some ridiculous shit, and come out with only a dent in the case, or some scratches. Plastic laptops easily would have shattered. My little (older) Powerbook G4 12" fell about 4 feet to tile/concrete, landing on the corner, while it was running. Dent in the corner, but no other harm done. Do that to a Dell (which I've owned several of before going Mac).
For myself, 1/2 the reason I buy a product is because it'll stand up to my shit; I'm very bad at babying my tools.

I too have Premiere Pro but I don't have any experience with FCP. So far I've been very pleased with what I can do with it. Premiere lets you adjust your effect levels, and I'm sure FCP does too. I've been most impressed with the title designing in Premiere, because its really easy to make good looking titles. The motion effects are easy to use too, once you figure them out. Overall I'm not very experienced with it, as I got it about 2 months ago, but I used 2.0 for a semester in school, and the two are similar. Good luck with your choice man, I hope it works out for you. In my opinion, I think both programs are very nice, and either one would do. I would base my choice on the cost of the computer/software, if you're gonna pay for that. I'm pretty sure the professionals use FCP, and from what I hear, the Macbooks are better than other laptops, so maybe that's what you're looking for...

Unless you really know the extreme ins and outs of the program, it doesn't really matter. Just get something and use it.

like people have been saying i think there pretty much the same. and to whoever was a few above me (im to lazy to go back and quote) but just cause its for mac dosent mean its just automacticly better. its mainly about preference i think.
